Casey Sowder kicks off the series with a look at the Shinko machine he runs daily. This CNC machine can coil wire and perform wire bends, making it a valuable addition to the production floor. Instead of sending extension springs through secondary processes to add bends and hooks, the Shinko can form them automatically while coiling the spring.

Executive Vice President Jeff Jacobson stopped by Newcomb Spring of Tennessee to present Josh Shevlin with a letter and gift card for winning our 2026 Battle of the Shirts competition. Newcomb Spring of Connecticut welcomed three new apprentices this week, bringing the location's total number of apprentices to four in 2026!

Please join us in welcoming Anthony Cordero in coiling, Travis Parsons in toolmaking, and Nic Gagnon and Collin Martin in CNC wireforming. We're excited to watch them grow their skills, gain hands-on experience, and build rewarding careers in manufacturing.
