The Great Rivers Field Station staff had the pleasure of sharing what we do and why to the next generation of possible scientist . Alton High School students enrolled in the Summer Watershed Academy with Mr. Pettus had a great time holding fish , turtles and learning about our ecosystem and waterways. We were even lucky enough to catch a Paddlefish for them to see. It was a lot of these kids first time holding a fish and they jumped right in !

Funding for the Great Rivers Field Station is at risk!

The Great Rivers Field Station is primarily funded by the UMRR (worldwide leaders in scientific river research) and is one of six field stations on the Upper Mississippi River that administer the Long Term Resource Monitoring program. We have been monitoring Pool 26 of the Mississippi River since 1986. The UMRR program is the largest and most successful river restoration program in the world and has received bipartisan support throughout its existence. If you support our endeavors in restoring habitat for migrating waterfowl, recreational and commercial fisheries, and everything that calls the river home; if you support maintaining the Mississippi River’s dual purpose as a vital commercial transportation network and ecosystem for one of the largest river networks in the world; if you support river management, helping understand natural and human impacts to sedimentation processes, native and nonnative species, water quality, aquatic plants and so much more, PLEASE reach out to your representatives through this link: bit.ly/SaveUMRR
