This isn’t an easy post to write, but it’s an honest one.

We’ve made the decision to close Trout Tower Service.

Over time, it’s become clear that the way business is being done has changed—and not for the better. Customers not paying for completed work. Vendors not delivering what they promise. Leads that go nowhere. Long-time partners disappearing without a word.

We built this company on accountability and integrity. When those things stop being mutual, the business stops making sense.

Rather than keep fighting an environment that no longer supports doing things the right way, we’re choosing to close our doors with our standards intact.

Thank you to everyone who supported us, worked with us honestly, and believed in how business should be done.

Common Causes of Instability and How to Prevent Them

From RF interference to poor cabling, many factors cause network disruptions...
To begin improving network stability, consider the following:

• Inspect for RF sources near antennas
• Ensure proper cable shielding
• Use ferrite chokes where needed
• Limit device overloading at edge points

Tech Tip of the Week:

Install spectrum analyzers during commissioning to spot hidden interference.

Understanding Network Stability in Wireless Systems

In today’s connected world, network stability is the foundation of uptime and user satisfaction...

To begin improving network stability, consider the following:
• Audit your current sites for interference sources
• Track uptime and latency over time using automated tools
• Verify all connections and grounding practices
• Review your power supply systems (including backup options)

Tech Tip of the Week:

Use signal monitoring software to detect sudden drops or spikes — they often indicate interference or loose connections.

Annual Lightning Protection Audits & Upgrades

Lightning protection isn't set-it-and-forget-it. Annual audits help identify wear, corrosion, or new risk areas to keep your site safe.

To begin improving network stability, consider the following:
• Inspect all arrestors and connectors for corrosion.
• Test ground resistance at all key points.
• Update documentation and as-builts.
• Plan for system upgrades based on test data

Tech Tip of the Week:

Tie lightning audits into your preventative maintenance calendar.

Lightning Damage Case Studies and Cost Impacts

Poor protection leads to major losses. Reviewing real-world cases helps justify investment in quality lightning systems.

To begin improving network stability, consider the following:
• Examine failures caused by improper bonding or grounding
• Analyze insurance claims vs. mitigation cost
• Review outage timelines and SLA breaches
• Highlight which practices could have prevented damage

Tech Tip of the Week:

Include cost-benefit analysis in every new protection plan.

Keeping a Client From Straying Off Course

Every project starts with a clean scope.
Every project ends with a pile of “quick asks” that weren’t in the original plan.

Clients rarely derail a project all at once.
They do it one small detour at a time.

Your role is to maintain course discipline:

1️⃣ Anchor everything back to the agreed-upon scope.

When the conversation drifts, bring it home:
“Let’s tie this back to the project objectives.”

2️⃣ Filter asks into categories:

In scope → execute

Out of scope → change order

Not needed → redirect

3️⃣ Don’t chase every idea.

Your responsibility is the project outcome, not every impulse the client has.

4️⃣ Give structure to their requests.

“What is the objective of this?”
“What outcome are you trying to achieve?”
This often reveals the ask isn’t needed.

5️⃣ Hold the line without apology.

This isn’t being difficult.
It’s protecting the timeline, budget, and integrity of the work.

A great project manager doesn’t just manage tasks.
They manage focus.
Because where the client focuses, the project follows.

Documentation and As-Built Diagrams for Protection

As-built diagrams are the final record of what was installed. They’re essential for troubleshooting, inspections, and audits.

To begin improving network stability, consider the following:
• Mark all bonding/grounding points with photos and notes
• Include surge paths and device ratings
• Store files in shared project folders
• Label version numbers and update when changes occur

Tech Tip of the Week:

Use GPS-tagged photos in diagrams to match field locations exactly.

How to Keep a Client From Derailing the Timeline

Nobody derails a project faster than a client…
…and 95% of the time, they don’t even realize they’re doing it.

Missed approvals.
Late data.
Scope changes.
Last-minute “quick questions.”
Unclear priorities.

All of it stacks up.
All of it kills timelines.

Here’s how experienced PMs prevent it:

1️⃣ Put the client’s responsibilities in writing.

Tasks, dates, and deliverables. No ambiguity.

2️⃣ Create dependency visibility.

Show them exactly what stops until they complete their part.

3️⃣ Use deadlines — and enforce them.

A deadline without enforcement isn’t a deadline. It’s a suggestion.

4️⃣ Control the communication cadence.

Weekly check-ins prevent last-minute chaos.

5️⃣ Give early warnings.

“Based on X being outstanding, your target date is at risk.”
Say it early. Say it clearly.

Clients don’t usually mean to delay a project.
They just underestimate their impact.

Your job is to make that impact visible — and keep the project moving.

Test Your Grounding - Or Risk Equipment Damage

Testing Ground Resistance: Methods and Targets

Testing ground resistance verifies your protection system is working. Regular testing helps avoid costly damage and liability.

To begin improving network stability, consider the following:
- Use a 3-point fall-of-potential test for accuracy.
- Record resistance values in ohms at each rod.
- Retest annually or after lightning events.
- Compare values to site spec (typically

How to Be Firm Without Crossing Into Unprofessional

Being firm with a client is part of the job.
Being unprofessional is not.

The difference isn’t what you say — it’s how you deliver it.

Here’s the line:

Professional firmness sounds like:

➡️ “Per the agreement, this falls outside the current scope. I can send over a change order.”
➡️ “We can proceed once we receive X.”
➡️ “Here are your options so we can keep the project on track.”

Unprofessional sounds like:

❌ Blame
❌ Emotion
❌ Frustration
❌ Threats
❌ Personal comments

Firmness = clarity + boundaries.
Unprofessional = ego + emotion.

A seasoned PM always:

1️⃣ States the facts, not feelings.
2️⃣ Uses consequences, not threats.
3️⃣ Protects the scope, timeline, and team.
4️⃣ Provides solutions, not roadblocks.

You can be calm, respectful, and completely non-negotiable at the same time.

That’s not harsh — that’s leadership.

Deck the Halls Without the Falls.

National Christmas Lights Day is here - make safety part of your tradition.

National Christmas Lights Day is the perfect time to make your home glow. But before you climb that ladder or plug in those lights, take a moment for safety:

🎄 Choose a sturdy ladder that meets American Ladder Institute standards and always maintain three points of contact.

🔌 For electrical safety, NFPA recommends outdoor-rated lights and cords, dry connections, and avoiding circuit overloads.

The Leadership Lesson Hidden in Thanksgiving

In a world obsessed with productivity and digital engagement, Thanksgiving offers a powerful reminder: leadership starts with presence.

We’ve commercialized this holiday into a race for deals, but its essence is about slowing down, reflecting, and reconnecting. When we unplug—even for a day—we model balance, prioritize relationships, and return with clarity that fuels better decisions.

This season let’s lead by example. Step away from the noise. Invest in conversations that matter. Because the strongest networks aren’t built online—they’re built around the table.
