We are looking for experience carpenters to join our team. The ideal candidates will have a strong background in carpentry and be able to work with a variety of materials and tools. The successful candidate will be responsible for constructing, repairing, and maintaining structures using wood and other materials. This position requires a high level of attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
*Rates are increased from base rate for rural village projects depending on project and location.
**Compensation: $30-50 DOE
Responsibilities:
- Perform skilled carpentry work on residential and commercial construction projects in Anchorage, Alaska, and remote Alaska villages
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine project requirements
- Construct, install, and repair structures, fixtures, and furniture using various tools and materials
- Frame walls, roofs, and floors using traditional and modern techniques
- Install windows, doors, cabinets, and trim with precision and attention to detail
- Measure, cut, and shape wood, plastic, fiberglass, and other materials according to project specifications
- Collaborate with project managers, architects, and other tradespeople to ensure efficient and accurate construction processes
- Adhere to safety guidelines and maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Perform general maintenance and repairs as needed
- Travel to remote Alaska villages to work on construction projects as required
Qualifications:
-Proven experience as a carpenter in Alaska, with knowledge of local building codes, regulations, and weather conditions
- Familiarity with working in extreme cold weather and ability to adapt construction techniques accordingly
- Proficient in using and maintaining carpentry tools and equipment suitable for Alaska's climate
- Strong understanding of wood species suitable for Alaskan construction and their unique properties
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team in remote locations with limited resources and logistical challenges
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to unexpected situations or changes in project plans
- Physical stamina and strength to perform manual labor in challenging environments
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with diverse teams and effectively communicate with clients, supervisors, and fellow tradespeople
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to remote locations within Alaska as required.
