On-orbit artificial intelligence and machine learning are transforming satellite communications. By enabling edge computing in space both latency and costs are reduced by processing data before transmitting. A collaboration between Spacechips and Vicor support this capability through a high-efficiency Factorized Power Architecture that delivers advanced AI processors within the tight constraints of a satellite. Learn more about this innovation in our new article “Harnessing AI in space to enable faster communication and a new era of innovation.”

Delivering reliable high-voltage power, whether 800V or 400V, demands more than just robust insulation. To meet stringent industry safety standards like IEC 60664-1, power systems must ensure thousands of volts of galvanic isolation, up to 100MΩ of insulation resistance, and precise creepage and clearance distances.

Traditional discrete designs often fall short, struggling with parasitic capacitance, limited isolation, and synchronization challenges.

Tightly packed high-voltage components on a PCB can lead to dangerous electrical arcing (clearance) and tracking (creepage)—risks that increase with higher voltages, pollution, altitude, and humidity.

By encapsulating all power system components within an epoxy-molded package, you dramatically reduce the risk of arcing and tracking.

There are various electronic and electro-mechanical systems that are characterized by highly transient or instantaneous demand for power. The best power delivery solution to handle this challenge are fixed-ratio converters using the Sine Amplitude Conversion (SAC™) topology. This type of converter utilizes a high switching frequency, allowing energy to be transferred to the output more frequently, assisting with transient current demand events.
