In a recent survey of 144 senior supply chain professionals, 29% said the ability to model a scenario before making a decision would have made the biggest difference during their worst disruption.

The finding points to an important challenge: not having the ability to evaluate potential outcomes before committing to a course of action.

The Supply Chain Design & Resilience Survey 2026 benchmarked 144 senior supply chain professionals on what separates the leaders who move in days from the ones still waiting on an answer. Here are a few of the findings:
>>> Only 18% can evaluate a major network change in days or hours.
>>> 67% still rely on spreadsheets for supply chain modeling.
>>> 79% vs. 30% — 79% of teams that model continuously can evaluate a major scenario within two weeks. Only 30% of project-based teams can.
>>> 70% cite data quality as a top modeling limitation.

No one gets a demand forecast 100% right. That's not the goal.

When the demand signal behind a decision isn't granular enough, everything downstream gets planned for the wrong reality. You pay for it in obsolescence, stockouts, and expediting.

In this clip, Vikram Srinivasan, SVP of Product and Innovation at Optilogic, explains why getting demand right at the level of granularity each decision requires shows up so directly in cost and service. In the blog, he puts a number on it: a 1% improvement in forecast accuracy can yield roughly a 0.5% reduction in safety stock. At scale, that adds up fast.

When tariffs shift or a key supplier fails, leadership needs an answer fast. Most supply chain teams can't deliver one in time.

Supply Chain Media, in partnership with Optilogic, surveyed 144 senior supply chain professionals on how quickly they can evaluate a major network decision.

Here's what we found:
- Only 18% can evaluate a major decision in days. The other 82% need a week or more.
- Company size barely affects decision speed. Operating model does.
- 79% of teams that model continuously can evaluate a major scenario within two weeks, vs. 30% of project-based teams.
- Only 16% spend more time on the supply chain they'll need than the one they run today.
- 67% still rely on spreadsheets, and 70% cite data quality as a top limitation.

The takeaway: you can't control disruption, but you can control how fast you respond.
