This weekend, The University of Michigan Aerospace Engineering Department hosted Aerospace Day, an outreach event where K12 students come participate in fun aerospace engineering experiences while their parents have an opportunity to talk with current students about their experiences at Michigan. The panorama shows the aftermath of the buouancy experiement we hosted.
At the MBuRST station, students got helium-filled balloons. Their goal was to make them rise from floor to ceiling in exactly ten seconds by adding a payload made of paper/marbles/plastic figurines. This is way harder than it sounded, and the students were incredibly excited and competative. Parents and students provided us with great feedback and comments, our personal favorites include 'Don't you work here?' to 'You're gonna hafta help me get this rocket juuuust right' and some impeccable explanations of lift and drag.
While some of our members were at Aerospace day, the rest of the team was helping Engineering 100 and 584 classes launch their payloads across Michigan. Some cool photos and pictures from that hopefully to come!
