Western took the People and Culture show on the road from Jan 7th-Jan 28th to meet with employees to provide them with important updates during our Annual Training.

We traveled to El Paso, Texas, Kingman, Apache Junction for our Tucson crew and Morenci, Arizona to visit in person to talk about our 2025 Benefits, our New Empower 401k App, our new HRIS/Payroll UKG App and to learn more about or Mission, Vision and Core Values. It was a great adventure and we were so grateful to connect with the majority of our teams.

We could not have done it without our WIRC leaders supporting this training opportunity and our insurance team Brown & Brown Insurance with Tony and Veronica!

Also, a big shoutout to the traveling nurses from Catapult Health for coming to Apache Junction and Morenci and completing health screenings for our teams who were excited to participate! This was a new initiative for us and the feedback about the initial assessment has been great. We look forward to hearing more success stories after our at home kits are rolled out in the coming weeks!

How can you start prioritizing self-care?

In the construction industry, we’re used to putting in long hours and pushing through tough conditions to get the job done. As a spouse, parent, friend or professional, it’s easy to focus on others—your team, your family, your crew—but often we forget that we need to take care of ourselves too.

Think about it like this: on an airplane, in case of an emergency, they always tell you to put your own mask on first, then help others. Do you think that’s a good approach when it comes to your work and personal life?

If you're running on empty—feeling burnt out, unfocused, or even just mentally drained—how effective can you really be in taking care of the people around you? Are you firing on all cylinders, or just getting by until the next pit stop at the doctor’s office? Taking care of yourself isn't selfish; it's essential for you to show up at your best, both at work and at home.
