💡 Did you know Commonwealth Cyber Initiative awarded 18 seed grants to nine Virginia public universities for a total of $1.61 million to address cybersecurity issues in artificial intelligence this year?

These incredible teams are developing advanced solutions for real-world threats such as detecting deepfakes, improving intrusion detection systems with explainable AI, and enhancing biometric security using synthetic data. These projects are shaping the future of cyber defense across sectors like defense, health care, and public infrastructure.

CCI is proud to announce another exciting Project-Based Learning Program with our friends at CACI International Inc 🚀

In this program, students will be immersed in real-world cybersecurity issues and gain mentored work experience while earning $25 an hour. Tasks will include generating, documenting, and implementing a project plan to create and build a repository of approximately 30 challenges to be used for CACI CTF employee and outreach events.

🗓️ Recruitment opens April 7 and closes on April 30, 2025.

This weekend marks the opening of CyberArts 2024, a CCI-funded art exhibit exploring cybersecurity through imagery, sound, performance, space, and time.

📑 Two Virginia Tech researchers, Tabitha L. James and Viswanath Venkatesh, will study the influence that judgmental artificial intelligence, or “judgy AI”, has on minorities, the underprivileged, and other vulnerable populations.

👏 This research proposal is one of 11 projects funded by CCI as part of our 2024 Addressing Inclusion and Accessibility in Cybersecurity program.

📝 Submissions came from CCI researchers at George Mason University, James Madison University, Old Dominion University, Virginia Commonwealth University, Virginia Tech, and William & Mary

🌐 Many papers were the product of collaborations between researchers at multiple CCI member universities, as well as institutions in other states and nations.
