"The Office of Clean Coal and Carbon Management (OCCCM) supports research and development (R&D) on advanced technologies to ensure the availability of clean, affordable products from coal. R&D focuses on the discovery and development of technologies that improve the efficiency, emissions, and performance of current and future coal-based power plants; reduce the cost of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS); ensure efficient use and management of water resources; and create new markets for coal and coal products through innovative conversion processes and the utilization of carbon dioxide to create added value. OCCCM supports the larger goals and performance measures articulated in the Office of Fossil Energy (FE) 2018-2022 Strategic Vision informed by longer-term goals for planning purposes. This OCCCM Strategic Vision for 2020–2024 clarifies the priorities and strategies that will guide the Office’s R&D investments in alignment with the FE vision and key directions. "
