We were happy to welcome our friends from the FORCE BLUE team aboard R/V Cosmo in Key West! 👋

Jon Slayer and Matt DeMaio stopped by to say hello and take a tour of Cosmo before she heads south to begin her next chapter in Panama.

It was a pleasure to show them around the vessel and share more about Cosmo’s upcoming work in Central America. Thanks for stopping by, FORCE BLUE — we’re so glad you could visit before she sets sail!

What makes a Hope Spot... hopeful? 🌊 The people behind it.

Last year, GMSO Founder G. Mark Miller joined Dr. Sylvia Earle and a diverse team of scientists, explorers, conservation leaders, and stakeholders on the Explorers Club Flag Expedition in support of the Mission Blue Chesapeake Bay Hope Spot initiative.

That collaborative effort was recently recognized through Virginia Senate Resolution No. 114, acknowledging both the significance of the Chesapeake Bay and the many people and organizations working to advance its long-term stewardship.

We're grateful to be part of and support this ongoing effort and look forward to seeing the Mission Blue Chesapeake Bay Hope Spot initiative continue to grow.

Talk about a transformation. 😍 Meet the new and improved R/V Bellows.

Following a complete overhaul, Bellows is ready to support oceanographic research, diving operations, uncrewed surface vehicle (USV) deployment and recovery, and a wide range of scientific field operations across the U.S. East Coast, Gulf of Mexico, and Caribbean.

With accommodations for up to 11 personnel across five staterooms, modern navigation and communications systems, telescoping cranes, A-frames, and dedicated winches, Bellows is equipped to support a wide range of multi-day scientific and field operations.

We're excited to have Bellows as part of the growing GMSO fleet and look forward to the important work ahead.

Finally catching our breath from a big World Oceans MONTH! Here are a few moments from World Oceans Week at Explorers Club Headquarters in New York. What an incredible week.

These photos capture just a small snapshot of the conversations, history, and innovation that filled each day.

One moment took us back to the earliest days of deep-ocean exploration with the historic Bathysphere used during William Beebe's pioneering dives into the ocean's "Twilight Zone." Another looked toward the future with emerging remotely operated vehicle (ROV) technology—the kind of innovation that will continue expanding our ability to study and better understand the ocean.

During the week, GMSO Founder and CEO, G. Mark Miller, also had the honor of leading the toast to legendary ocean explorer Don Walsh, recognizing a lifetime dedicated to pushing the boundaries of ocean exploration and inspiring generations that followed.

One of the biggest takeaways? There has never been a more exciting time to be part of the ocean exploration community. The ideas, partnerships, and innovations shared throughout the week left us energized about what's ahead—and excited to continue expanding our fleet and supporting the next chapter of ocean exploration.

Today, we celebrate the spirit of exploration, innovation, and service that has long shaped our nation's history—on land and at sea.

As we enjoy time with family and friends this holiday weekend, we're also grateful for the scientists, mariners, researchers, and maritime professionals whose work continues to expand our understanding of the ocean and support critical missions around the world.

Wishing everyone a safe, happy, and memorable Independence Day.

The recently released UN Third World Ocean Assessment is a reminder of both how much we have learned about our ocean—and how much remains unknown.

Compiled by nearly 600 experts from 86 countries, the assessment highlights accelerating changes across marine ecosystems and notes that only about 27% of the global seafloor has been mapped.

Addressing these challenges requires more than advanced technology and scientific expertise. It requires access to the ocean.

As the need for ocean science, monitoring, exploration, and rapid response continues to grow, access to the ocean has never been more important. GMSO is positioned to help provide that access through vessels, marine operations expertise, and logistical support for ocean science, exploration, and offshore missions worldwide.

A reopening two years in the making. 🌎✨
Last week, the National Geographic Museum of Exploration officially reopened its doors following an extensive renovation, culminating in a special "Yellow Carpet" celebration at the close of National Geographic Explorers Fest in Washington, D.C.

GMSO Government Contract Specialist, Mike Carter was honored to attend this remarkable event alongside explorers, scientists, filmmakers, photographers, and innovators from around the world.

The evening included the opportunity to celebrate with legendary ocean explorers Dr. Robert Ballard and .sylviaearle, whose work has inspired generations of ocean exploration and science. Pictured behind Mike is a replica of Dr. Earle's historic JIM suit.

Few organizations have done more to inspire curiosity, discovery, and exploration than . The reopening of this iconic institution was a fitting celebration of the global community of explorers who continue to push the boundaries of what we know about our planet and oceans.

Exploration has always been a shared endeavor. We're proud that GMSO can play a role in supporting the people and missions that continue to expand our understanding of our planet and oceans.

A few moments from an excellent Capital Hill Ocean Week 2026.

GMSO Founder and CEO G. Mark Miller and Chief of Staff Suzanne Garrett spent several days connecting with colleagues, partners, and leaders from across the ocean, maritime, science, and exploration communities.

From celebrating the achievements of longtime friends and colleagues to discussing the future of our oceans, it was a week filled with valuable connections, fresh ideas, and exciting opportunities ahead.
