🌊 Scientists just broke a record — 1,121 new marine species discovered in a single year.

Ghost sharks. Glass-castle worms. Carnivorous sponges. And scientists say up to 90% of ocean life is still unknown, meaning the race to document what's down there before it's lost is very much on.

This kind of science happens at sea, and having the right vessel makes all the difference. GMSO provides research teams worldwide with affordable, professionally crewed ocean platforms to support exactly this kind of work.

Today, GMSO pauses to remember and honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

As a veteran-owned company, this day carries deep meaning. Service, leadership, readiness, and commitment are part of our foundation, and we recognize that the freedoms we work, build, and explore under came at an immeasurable cost.

Today, we remember. We honor. We are grateful.

Good people, a beautiful sunset, and a little stargazing on deck. 🌅⚓️

This past weekend, we hosted a small gathering aboard R/V Cosmo for special guests to enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of the vessel and spend a great evening dockside together.

Safe to say… fun was had by all. 😄🌊🥂

More to come from the growing GMSO network.

A great conversation and an exciting week at EarthX. 🌎🚢

GMSO Founder & CEO Commander G. Mark Miller recently joined GMSO Advisory Board member Tim Gallaudet for a fireside chat focused on the future of ocean access, operations, and the growing need for capable vessels and infrastructure at sea.

These conversations are helping bring more attention to the importance of reliable access to the ocean and the partnerships needed to support missions around the world.

Awesome to see the momentum continuing. More ahead.

Exciting things are happening behind the scenes at GMSO. 🚢

Last week, we held our first full “all hands” team meeting — bringing together a growing group of specialists helping shape the next phase of GMSO.

It was a great opportunity to connect and welcome new team members. Some of us have known each other for years, and for newer connections it was the first chance to finally put faces with names. The team has grown quickly, and so has the momentum behind what we’re building.

From vessel operations and logistics to partnerships, media, technology, and strategic development, we’re continuing to bring more experienced people onboard as we expand reliable access to the ocean through capable vessels and mission-driven operations.

Love seeing both the team and fleet continuing to grow. More updates soon. 🌎⚓

🌊 Have you seen this?

Love reading about the Ocean Discovery League pushing this forward, aiming to double deep seafloor observations. Ambitious and awesome, especially when you consider the fact that we’ve still only seen less than 0.001%.

This is exactly the kind of important work that needs to be accelerated—and why expanding access to the ocean so it can happen at scale really counts.

🚢 New photos just in and she’s looking great! 🙌 This is the R/V Robert Gray, a GMSO partner vessel.

Currently underway on the southern leg of a North American circumnavigation, this 125-ft platform offers a rare opportunity to support a wide range of missions—from oceanographic work to cultural, historical, and exploratory programs.

With a 5,000 nm range and 30+ days of endurance, the R/V Robert Gray is built for extended operations. Equipped with a sonar moonpool, additional workboat, and optional A-frame with oceanographic winch, it’s a versatile platform ready to adapt to program needs.

📍 Annual circumnavigation of North America, with flexibility for rerouting based on mission objectives.

🌐 Excited to see this big step forward.

The Greenwater Foundation has announced the launch of their new website, along with the next phase of VesselConnect, now more streamlined and user-friendly.

All part of making it easier to connect people and projects with the platforms they need to get out on the water—and keep things moving forward.

🌍 Earth Day. A good reminder that the ocean touches everything—weather, trade, food, and security, and yet so much of it remains out of reach.

This week, G. Mark Miller is at EarthX, sharing GMSO’s work and contributing to the conversation on expanding access to the ocean.

At GMSO, the focus is simple: making that access possible so more work, exploration, and rapid response can happen where and when it’s needed.
Because it starts with getting out there.

In honor of Earth Day, sharing a photo of Her Deepness, Dr. Sylvia Earle, delivering an inspiring and impactful presentation this week at EarthX.

🌍 Big week at EarthX so far!

GMSO has been named a finalist in the 10th Annual E-Capital Summit, recognizing organizations advancing real-world environmental solutions.

On site, GMSO CEO G. Mark Miller and Brooke Elzweig, GMSO Strategic Development Advisor, are sharing GMSO’s work and connecting with leaders across sectors focused on what it takes to keep things moving forward.

From the stage to time catching up with legendary ocean explorer Bob Ballard and The Honorable Tim Gallaudet, PhD, Rear Admiral, U.S. Navy (ret.), it’s a powerful reminder of the collaboration and momentum building across this space.

Expanding access to the ocean is one piece of that—and we’re excited to be part of it.
