Nearly half of people with peripheral artery disease have no leg pain at all.
That is why PAD so often goes undiagnosed. Symptoms alone catch only a small share of cases, while the risks are serious: heart attack, stroke, and limb loss. Patients over 65, and those with diabetes or a smoking history, face the highest risk.
An ankle-brachial index (ABI) test finds PAD before symptoms do. Earlier detection means earlier treatment, and treatment can prevent amputations that cost up to $35,000 and change a patient’s life.
