Friendly reminder from a small business owner:
Small businesses are exactly that — small. Some months are great, some are slow, but the bills still show up every single month regardless.
When a small business skips their normal 50% deposit to help you out, gives you a discounted rate, and spends time building something custom specifically for you, please don’t leave them hanging when it comes time to pick up and pay for the finished product.
Most small businesses aren’t backed by big investors or corporations. We buy materials up front, spend hours designing, building, welding, cutting, painting, fabricating, and often trust people on a handshake just to help them out.
The unfortunate part is when people take advantage of that trust, it ruins it for everyone else too. Policies like 50% deposits exist for a reason, and every time someone leaves a business hanging, it pushes small businesses closer to requiring deposits from everyone, no exceptions.
Respect goes both ways.
Support small businesses by communicating, following through, and paying for the work you asked for. It matters more than most people realize.
