The Whalen Company is a Tennis and Pickleball court construction company based in Asheville, NC. Covering a large territory, we help clubs and private clients turn their facilities into premier athletic centers.
We are looking for a new crew member to join our hardworking team this upcoming season. This individual’s role will be to assist in the general construction and maintenance of Tennis and Pickleball courts for our clients.
This is an hourly position starting at $18.00 per hour, with the potential to earn more based on a quarterly assessment of work ethic. On the job training is included from the first day on.
Responsibilities:
1) As an employee, you will work closely with 2-5 other employees at a given time, completing tasks called upon by our clients. Tasks include but are not limited to: Installing fence, court resurfacing, handling acrylic resurfacing materials, asphalt crack repair, nailing/painting court lines, adding clay to a Har-Tru(clay) tennis court, installing curb around a tennis court, and general court maintenance.
2) In upholding and exceeding the expectations of our clients, our employees are asked to be reliable, timely, and respectful to the people and the job sites that we are privileged to work on.
3) General understanding of safety when working with construction materials (i.e. shovels, digging bars, concrete, asphalt, nails). Employees are also responsible for ensuring that we maintain a clean and safe work site.
4) You can expect a typical work week to range from 30-45 hours. Hours will vary based on factors such as weather, distance to work site, and the type of work needed on a given day.
Requirements:
1) Must have a valid drivers license.
2) Must be able to lift and move materials of up to 80+/- pounds. Anything over 80 pounds is almost always assisted by another team member.
3) Flexible schedule: Our company completes work for clients all throughout North Carolina, its neighboring states, and beyond. There will be occasional trips to worksites in which employees will stay overnight and/or weekly at a given location. There will also be occasional help needed on Saturday’s depending on weekly weather, deadlines, or an influx of jobs needing to be completed at once.
4) Good communication skills and the ability to work well with a team.
5) A resumé is not required but preferred. As mentioned previously and whether or not your experience aligns with a construction related field, we will train you to be able to fulfill this position to the best of your ability.
