EpiDerm™, Mat

Tek's first 3D human cell based in vitro model, was introduced in 1993 and became an immediate technical and commercial success. MatTek revolutionized the market for human cell-based in vitro models by:
•Reducing the cost of such models by 50-80%
•Optimizing researchers' results by introducing published QC standards (concurrent positive and negative controls), assuring a level of reproducibility acceptable to industry and regulators.
•Increasing industry and regulator confidence in the performance of commercially available in vitro tissue models. and Slovakia, MatTek's human cell-derived tissue models are widely used in the United States, Europe and Japan. Our record of scientific and technological innovation remains strong as we continue to develop and validate new in vitro assays and human tissue models. We invite you to use our products, services and technical solutions, which will afford your company new opportunities in obtaining faster, cost-effective, more reliable and relevant results compared to the traditional assays and 2D in vitro systems. The current product offering includes EpiDerm™, MelanoDerm™, EpiOcular™, EpiAirway™, EpiDermFT™ (full thickness) EpiVaginal™, EpiOral™, EpiGingival™, Melanoma and Psoriasis.

MatTek is heading to the World Congress on Alternatives and Animal Use in the Life Sciences!

We will be exhibiting, presenting talks and posters, and hosting a free workshop at the 13th World Congress on Alternatives and Animal Use in the Life Sciences (WC13) this August in Rio de Janeiro. This global event brings together leaders in New Approach Methodologies (NAMs), and we’re proud to be part of the conversation shaping the future of non-animal testing.

📢 Featured Satellite Workshop: “3D Models Applications in Toxicology”
• Explore the science behind human organotypic tissue models
• Learn how these models support regulatory NAMs adoption
• Hands-on training for select participants (space is limited!)

MatTek is exhibiting and presenting this week at the Association of Inhalation Toxicologists Annual Conference. Dr. Seyoum Ayehunie is presenting a poster on the development of multi-species airway tissue models.

One of the challenges in the adoption of NAMs is the existence of large databases of animal toxicity data which are not directly translatable to data obtained from human in vitro airway tissue models due to species differences. To close that translational gap, Dr. Ayehunie and our R&D group have developed airway models from cells harvested from rats and non-human primates (NHP) to compare data to EpiAirway, MatTek's human airway model.

These translational tools are vital to predicting airway inhalation toxicity and for bridging the in vitro-in vivo knowledge gap to reliably predict human responses, while providing an alternative approach to animal experimentation.

MatTek had the pleasure of speaking and exhibiting at the Massachusetts State House in support of H.850 sponsored by Rep. Jack Patrick Lewis and Senator Mark Montigny. The bill would require manufacturers to use effective, non-animal testing methods when available for cosmetics, household cleaners, and industrial chemicals. MatTek produces many types of lab-grown human tissues that accompany test protocols validated by global regulatory agencies, such as the OECD, that are utilized by companies worldwide to ensure the safety and efficacy of their consumer products.

The importance of legislative leadership to encourage the acceptance of NAMs cannot be overstated, and we are proud to support this effort in our home state with science-based solutions produced in Massachusetts labs. Many thanks to The Humane Society of the United States – End Animal Testing Campaign for organizing this event!

Earlier this month, MatTek's Chief Scientific Officer, Dr. Seyoum Ayehunie, presented a poster on groundbreaking work performed by our R&D team under his leadership. The development of a vascularized, metastatic colorectal cancer model for drug testing can have far reaching impacts from medical research to patient outcomes.

This project is born of our partnership with NEXT Oncology the goal of which is utilizing their inventory of patient-derived cancer cells to replicate cancerous tumors in vitro, so that more effective therapies can be developed by medical and pharmaceutical researchers.
