Cold weather is on the way. After a warm week, overnight lows are expected to drop into the low 30s this weekend across the Tri-State, with chilly mornings sticking around into next week.

Now is the time to test your furnace, before you actually need it:
Set your thermostat a few degrees above room temperature
Let the system run a full cycle
Make sure warm air is coming from your vents
Check that your air filter is clean

A faint dusty smell the first time it runs is normal. No heat, cold air, strange noises, or a smell that won't go away means it's time to call us.

Turned the heat on for the first time this season and noticed a burning smell? Don't panic. In most cases, it's just dust.

Dust settles on your furnace all summer long. The first few times the heat kicks on, that dust burns off, and you get that familiar smell. It should fade within the first hour and be gone after a few heating cycles.

When to give us a call:
Smell lingers or keeps coming back
Electrical or plastic odor
Smoke or a tripped breaker

If you ever smell rotten eggs, leave the home right away and call your gas company first.

Out with the old, up with the new!

Our commercial team was in Athens, Ohio, at Aaron's, where we replaced two rooftop units. With the crane on site, the old units came off and the new Trane units were set in place in one smooth day on the roof.

After today's rain clears, the week ahead looks close to perfect: sunshine, afternoons climbing from 67 into the upper 70s, and mornings sitting in the 40s every single day.

Happy Labor Day from all of us at General Heating & Air Conditioning.

Today is for the people who do the work. The service technicians running calls in the heat. The install crews on rooftops and in crawlspaces. The sheet metal shop, the warehouse, the drivers who keep the trucks loaded. The dispatchers, estimators, and office staff who keep schedules, permits, and paperwork moving so the field can do its job.

None of it works without all of it. This company has been built by these people since 1968, and we are grateful for every one of them.
