Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum Entertain, Educate, and Inspire. The museum moved to its current location in 1998 upon completion of a new indoor facility.
(2016)

The SAC Aerospace Museum, located between Lincoln and Omaha near Interstate 80, utilizes over 300,000 square feet of exhibit, education, and event space to educate, inspire, and entertain its guests. Organized in 1959, the original mission of the museum was to commemorate the contributions of the Strategic Air Command, which until 1992 was headquartered at Offutt Air Force Base. The museum houses an impressive collection of military aircraft and other artifacts, many of which have been restored in the museum’s on-site restoration facility. As part of its commitment to education, the museum has recently established a partnership with the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Office of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Education to provide cutting-edge educational opportunities for student, teachers, families, and adult learners. Traveling exhibits, permanent exhibits, and a variety of special events provide additional unique experiences for the museum’s members and visitors.

From folklore to the skies, vampires have a long and interesting history! 🧛

The 44th Fighter Squadron earned its nickname, the “Vampires,” during World War II for their deadly nighttime missions in the Pacific. First entering combat during the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, the squadron went on to serve across the Pacific and Southeast Asia.

Today, the 44th Fighter Squadron is stationed at Kadena Air Base in Japan, continuing its air defense mission and preparing for the arrival of the F-15EX Eagle II.

Stop by the museum to learn more about the history behind the name and the squadron that made it legendary!

Aircraft Spotlight: C-47 Skytrain

The C-47 Skytrain was one of the most important transport aircraft of World War II, helping move troops, equipment, food, and medical supplies across the globe. Known for its durability and versatility, the C-47 played a major role in airborne operations, including the D-Day invasion of Normandy, when it carried Allied paratroopers behind enemy lines.

Its impact went beyond the battlefield, helping deliver supplies to troops and support critical missions in difficult conditions.

You can see the C-47 Skytrain up close at the Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum in Ashland, Nebraska, and learn more about the aircraft that helped shape aviation and military history! ✈️
