Spring is here! Not only are wildflowers starting to bloom but so are bee hives! 🐝

As colonies come out of almonds their populations are growing and beekeepers are making splits to give the bees room to keep growing and prepare for a busy season of continued crop pollination and honey making!

It’s a busy time of year but also exciting as we start another year of supporting pollinators and our food system! 🌼

Antibiotics have become a common tool in shrimp farming, but they come with serious challenges. Overuse can drive antibiotic resistance, leave harmful residues, damage surrounding ecosystems, and threaten global trade. And when antibiotics are used during disease outbreaks, they often treat symptoms rather than solving the root problem.

What if we shifted from reacting to disease… to preventing it?

It’s February! Which means if you’re a beekeeper you’ve had a busy few weeks getting your hives off to California for the almond bloom!

The almond pollination event is the biggest of year! With close to a million almond trees in the Central Valley of California, close to 2 million bee hives are needed to pollinate them.

This means hives from all over the country get trucked to California and remain there until the bloom ends sometime in March!

The buzz of these orchards is always a good reminder of how much our food system relies on honey bees and their keepers every year! 🌸🐝
