Back before I knew better, I occasionally used pipe as columns.We have not used pipe as columns for many years now . Pipe is definitely cheaper than a structural square, rectangle tubing or I beam, but pipe, especially used pipe is NOT structural! Don't go with a carport or steel building contractor that uses pipe columns. Cheaper is not better. See the picture. The roof was strong but the pipe columns bent allowing the structure to collapse.
