We Make Events –North American Call to Action On Tuesday, November 10, 2020

EFFORTS CONTINUE TO URGE CONGRESS TO PASS RESTART AND EXTEND PUA AND FPUC

PUA

Live Events Industry organizations, including WeMakeEvents and ExtendPUA.org, have joined forced to once again urge Congress to pass the RESTART Act, which benefits all small business. And to help our displaced workers we are also supporting the efforts of ExtendPUA.org by asking for an extension and expansion of PUA and FPUC.

A two-prong campaign takes places on Tuesday, November 10, 2020:

1) WeMakeEvents has created a video message campaign* to be deployed nationally, with a goal of 1,000 placements on marquees, video billboards, websites, and social media from 9am – 9pm in all time zones across the country.

This campaign is easy. You can help by posting our video content on Tuesday November 10:
1. Please post to any of your own personal Social Media, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram
2. If you or your company has an “email blast” list, please send to your list
3. If you have an electronic marquee please run our video
4. Please send to your friends and co-workers and ask that they do the same
5. Send to your Congressional Representatives
6. ANY OTHER ideas you have to get our video seen please get it out there!

2) ExtendPUA.org - Jam The Lines, Round Two
ExtendPUA.org continues to stand in solidarity with . On Tuesday, November 10th they are hosting round two of . Join millions of Americans in demanding comprehensive pandemic relief as we flood the phone lines and social media of our elected leadership starting at noon Tuesday. More details, scripts, local and DC phone numbers and social handles for all Senators and Representatives are available in ExtendPUA.org's interactive database at ExtendPUA.org/JAM

The Live Events and Entertainment Industry came to a grinding halt in March of this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Businesses closing. Millions out of work or underemployed. All through no fault of their own. This could include you, a family member, someone you know or are close to. While some pieces of the economy are picking back up, those in Live Events cannot go fully back to work, and likely will be one of the last to return to full operations (well into 2021); let alone restore former prosperity (possibly not until 2022 or beyond).

A sobering article in Rolling Stone tells the story:
https://www.rollingstone.com/pro/features/music-crew-workers-2020-pandemic-1086604/

In September of this year, the industry was able to raise awareness to the Live Entertainment Industry situation through the wildly successful RedAlertRESTART Event. 3,000 buildings, companies, and homes lit red across the United States to literally shine a light on how many are affected.

A vaccine has been announced to help combat COVID-19, which means there is a light at the end of the tunnel for the industry, but until events are back in business, please help by posting the WeMakeEvents video and joining ExtendPUA.org’s Jam The Lines.
Make November 10, 2020 a day that makes a difference!

Just want to update all of you in the live events industry. The next two weeks are crucial for getting bill S.3814 passed through Congress and the Senate. It contains the RESTART act which will provide another round of PPP, extend the supplemental UC, and low interest loans so desperately needed by those in our industry who have been struggling to survive. Some ways you can help- Click this link to email your congressmen/women, https://lnkd.in/e23Bnzx It will take less than 2 minutes of your time. Go to https://www.extendpua.org for action steps you can take if you have more time. For more info https://lnkd.in/eWPdtGh

The reality is that they cannot return until the current pandemic is under control.  It doesn't matter whether your city/town has re-opened or not.  Live events exist on large groups of people gathering together and will not exist until that can be done safely.

“I don’t know if the audience side really understands how dire the situation is for millions of hard-working professionals.
Broadway is closed until 2021. Cirque du Soleil is filing for bankruptcy, and cut 3500+ jobs. Feld Entertainment laid off 90% of its workforce permanently. Live Nation had to lay off a significant amount of employees. Cruise ship entertainers are out of work. Theme park productions have no idea when they will be recalled. There are no concerts, festivals or touring productions scheduled until 2021 and if they don’t happen next year, they may never happen again. No Jazz Fest, no Coachella, no Bonnaroo, no EDC, no ROLLING STONES FINAL TOUR(S), and no SYMPHONIES....all gone. It’s being predicted that 90% of independent music venues may close, the longer this continues. No more Whiskey-a-gogo, no more Tipitina’s, no more Red Rocks, all gone. Entertainment Management, Publicity, Live events coordinator, Performing arts organizations of all kinds- choirs, theatres, orchestras, dance companies- all are trying to figure out on a daily basis how to keep going and employ anyone they can in the field.
More than 12,000,000 people work entertainment production in the US and produce revenue in the multi billions of dollars, we are not insignificant and this industry cannot reopen until mass gatherings can happen again. This doesn’t include the additional layoff of venue management and bar staff, security and thousands of vendors. Also, we can’t forget about the hundreds of thousands of performers and entertainers that make our careers possible, without them, there is no show.
So when you see your entertainment friends begging you to wear masks and stay home, understand that we are helplessly watching our industry crumble before our eyes because the country is doing so poorly at reducing the spread. This IS personal for us, our entire livelihood is dependent on social gathering and we will not accept being labeled “nonessential”.
Music and art are critical to a cheerful, balanced society.
Everyone’s career and the whole industry is indefinitely on hold. PLEASE wear your mask (over your mouth AND your nose) and wash your hands.
