Restoring a historic space within the Georgia State Capitol requires more than careful craftsmanship. Working within an active government building means coordinating logistics, carefully planning schedules, and navigating the challenges of construction while respecting the building’s historic significance.

The Reading Room restoration is just one component of the larger project taking place at the Capitol.

We caught up with Simon Williams, our Project Manager on site, to get a closer look at the restoration work happening behind closed doors and the coordination involved in bringing it all together.

The building is dried in at Northside Youth Organization (NYO), and we had plenty of reasons to celebrate!

Last week, we brought together our trade partners, NYO, TVS, and SG team to celebrate the building’s dry-in milestone. Everyone enjoyed lunch from The Pickle food truck and, more importantly, we had the chance to thank the those who have worked so hard to get this project to where it is today.

There’s a lot of work that goes into reaching a project milestone, and we’re grateful for the trade workforce who show up every day, look out for one another, and take pride in doing the job right. Their commitment to safety, quality, and keeping the project on schedule has made all the difference.

To all of our trade partners and their teams, thank you for everything you’ve done and continue to do. We appreciate you!

Project Update | Northside Youth Organization

NYO’s new facility is now approximately 60% complete, with work progressing across the building’s exterior, interior spaces, and major building systems.

Located in Atlanta’s Chastain Park, the new facility will provide NYO with a dedicated space designed to support its programs and the community it serves.

From one hallway to an entire campus, SG Contracting is proud to celebrate the completion of Global Village Project’s new home: a three-building campus spanning 3.2 acres in Decatur, Georgia, intentionally designed to give this tuition-free, nonprofit school serving recently resettled refugee girls the space it has long needed.

For 17 years, Global Village Project built an extraordinary school community within the halls of Decatur Presbyterian Church. Five classrooms, a small library and administrative offices shared a single hallway, where GVP created a place for refugee girls to continue an education that, for many, had been interrupted for years. As their community grew, their space simply couldn’t grow with them.

Our team helped transform their new property into a true school campus with 12 classrooms, an auditorium, kitchen and cafeteria, STEAM learning space, health and wellness areas, and dedicated spaces for the teachers, counselors and staff who support these students every day. The project also included new MEP systems, fire alarm and sprinkler systems, roofing, exterior improvements, and ADA-accessible pathways throughout the property.

For SG, this project was about much more than renovating three buildings. It was about helping create a permanent home where more girls can learn, belong, and prepare for what comes next. With its new campus, GVP will be able to double its capacity and welcome up to 100 students, opening the door for more young women to access the education and opportunities they deserve!

We’re grateful to Global Village Project for trusting our team with such a meaningful project, and to Ezekiel Architects and every trade partner who helped bring this vision to life. 🤲🌎

A new chapter is taking shape at one of Buckhead’s most historic properties.

The future Molly Blank Center for Opera and the Arts will transform the historic Bobby Jones Clubhouse into a main entrance and lobby, with a modern addition that will extend toward the Beltline. This month, the project reached an exciting milestone with the first concrete pour. We’re one step closer to going vertical!

A special thank you to Wheeler Services Inc., our subcontractor partner for this important first pour, and to the entire project team helping bring this vision to life.

We’re honored to be part of a project that will make the arts more accessible and create a lasting cultural destination in the heart of Buckhead.

The Molly Blank Center for Opera and the arts project continues to make strong progress as the site prepares to enter its next major phase of construction!

With interior demolition, nearing completion, site, grading, and storm drainage well underway, and ground improvements. Complete, our team is just weeks away from beginning concrete work. From there, the project will continue taking shape as CMU walls, structural steel, and precast construction follow.

We’re excited to keep the momentum going and look forward to sharing more progress along the way!
