This past weekend, the Acme team traded robots for baseball with a summer outing at United Shore Professional Baseball League.

Acme is headed to MRO Asia-Pacific, September 22nd to 24th, showcasing how robotic automation is changing HPC and HPT turbine blade repair.

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗥𝗮𝘄 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗠𝗶𝗿𝗿𝗼𝗿 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝟭𝟱 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀.

For this heavy truck bumper application, Acme combined a FANUC America Corporation M900/700 robot with a custom EOAT buffing head powered by a 20 HP variable speed motor.

The system automatically changes between three buffing spindles, allowing one robot to process multiple stainless steel and aluminum bumper surfaces while maintaining consistent finishing conditions.

Direct-mounted PoliPower - By Acme Marathon 12 liquid compound spray guns keep compound delivery integrated with the robotic process for a bright, consistent finish.

𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀:
• Approximately 15 minutes per bumper
• 3 to 4 bumpers per hour

𝗦𝗶𝘅 𝗥𝗼𝗯𝗼𝘁𝘀. 𝗧𝗲𝗻 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀.

This Acme robotic system was engineered to automate the polishing and buffing of stainless steel cookware across multiple I.D. and O.D. surfaces.

At the front of the cell, a FANUC America Corporation M-410 robot with vision handles palletized parts and feeds the finishing system. From there, five FANUC America Corporation R-2000/165 robots move components through 10 abrasive finishing stations using a part-to-abrasive tool process.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘀:
• Abrasive belt polishing of I.D. bottoms, sidewalls, set downs, rims, and O.D. bottoms
• Cut and color buffing with PoliPower liquid compound delivery
• Automatic part reorientation throughout the process
• Robot-to-robot part handoffs to achieve demanding cycle time requirements
• Automated transfer to the outgoing conveyor after finishing

One of the most interesting engineering challenges was coordinating five finishing robots across multiple finishing processes.
