(WARS) company. WARS was formed in April of 1984 by Robert Berg. Its function was to promote waterproof and roofing products in the Northwest. Robert sold WARS to Matthew Whale in 1987. Duradek was added to the product mix in 1994 as it fit quit well with the other products WARS utilized and met a particular need specific to the deck industry.

So today marks our first hands on education in Lenore, Idaho. It happens to be for a young man I, Matt, met around 22 years ago, as his mother Carmen and father Derick were promoting Duradek at at trade show in Boseman, Montana. Hunter was a new born, just several months old, the Whitings had a company authorized as a Duradek installer. As the representative, I provided a booth for display and assisted Carmen and Derick in face to face sales support. Today, I am blessed to participate as my youngest son, Shawn, conducts the class for this second generation and new Duradek installation company at our work facility and home here in Lenore.

Two days of educational seminars in Auburn, WA this week, Shawn and Mike Whale are sharing years of detailing and hot air seam melding techniques. These hands on seminars are priceless. Shawn Whale, along with Mike Whale, provided years of application experience and historical application knowhow in their startup class offered Monday, September 11th. This education seminar provides the Authorized installion contractor workers hands-on experience of seam welding, detailing and a plethora of insight and historical success data.

Installation class is Hubbard Oregon, 6/20/2023. Seven students kept Shawn and me hoppin. It was great having two students return from previous classes, one from back in approximately 2007, they were coming in for a refresher. Both were pleasantly surprised about some new techniques and tools presented. It was also a pleasure having them there as the questions they asked were real deck application and not hypothetical.
