After 23 years with Beardsley, Tom Wight is retiring this week!

For more than two decades, Tom has led Beardsley's business development and marketing efforts, helping grow the firm, strengthen client relationships, and expand our portfolio of work across New York State and the greater Northeast.

We are grateful for his leadership, dedication, friendship, and everything he has contributed to our firm over the years.

Congratulations, Tom! We wish you a happy retirement filled with many fair-weather golf days ahead.🏌️‍♂️

We faced major challenges with this award-winning project.

The project began with negotiations with the Adirondack Park Agency to combine two existing boathouses into one structure.

From there, the design pushed into complex structural territory: we had to source oversized steel columns and beams to construct a steel frame and lifts capable of hoisting massive, saturated, antique boats out of the water. A custom lift and trolley system allowed boats to be raised directly from the water, over the concrete floor, where a boat could be lowered onto a trailer and hulled out to be stored or worked on by the Owner.

Above it all sits a full-scale second-floor residence, served by an elevator. For us, this standout project combined problem-solving, coordination, and design at every level.

Set among 1,200 acres of Adirondack forest, this facility was designed to support learning and connection to the outdoors year-round.

As part of a design-build team, Beardsley provided full-service architecture and engineering services for a new dining hall and test kitchen at the Oswegatchie Educational Center, which is owned and operated by the New York Future Farmers of America Leadership Training Foundation, Inc.

Featuring a bright, vaulted dining hall, a certified test kitchen and food science lab, classrooms, a multipurpose room for meetings and educational sessions, and expansive porches overlooking the lake, the facility supports everything from meals and conferences to hands-on educational programs.

The project serves campers, students, educators, and visitors year-round, and has created a welcoming environment where learning, leadership, and connection to the outdoors can be enjoyed as a community.

Can you imagine designing something meant to last seven generations?

That question guided our team while working the master planning process at Generations Park for the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe.

In Episode 1 of our new series, Site Stories, we share our design process and what it means to plan for generational change.
