A Message From David Mills, PJM President and CEO:

Last week, millions of people across the PJM region felt the heat.

On Thursday, July 2, PJM experienced one of the highest demand days in our history, with preliminary data indicating electricity use may have exceeded our previous all-time peak record. While records tell one part of the story, the work behind the scenes tells another. Before temperatures reached their highest points, PJM operators were preparing. Teams were closely evaluating system conditions, coordinating with generation and transmission owners, and taking proactive steps to ensure the grid was ready to meet increased demand.

Reliability requires preparation long before extreme weather arrives. It requires coordination across thousands of resources, transmission facilities and partners throughout the region.

This event demonstrated the strength and importance of a reliable, interconnected grid. During periods of high demand, coordination across the industry helps ensure electricity continues flowing to the 67 million people who depend on PJM. Thank you to our employees, members and industry partners whose work and commitment helped us reliably serve our region throughout this historic event.

As we observe Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the brave service members who have given their lives in service to our country. We are deeply grateful for the sacrifices made by our military members and their families in defense of the freedoms we enjoy every day.

PJM held its annual recycling event at its Valley Forge campus today in recognition of of Earth Day. PJM staff brought old computers, printers, modems, televisions, small appliances, batteries, LED lightbulbs and tires for vendors to dispose of in a safe and sustainable manner.
