Congrats to the H**p Feed Coalition for furthering this collaboration with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Building a real market for h**p grain starts long before the feed ingredient reaches a formulation. It starts in the field.

Genetics, field performance, crop management, harvest, and market development all have to work together if h**p grain is going to scale.

HFC President Andrew Bish and Vice President Wendy Mosher joined Dr. Catelyn Bridges of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln at a New West Genetics test plot near Lincoln, Nebraska, to look at current genetics and field performance firsthand.

The visit also highlighted some of the practical realities of producing h**p grain, including bird pressure and the use of a drone-applied, food-grade, non-toxic, biodegradable repellent as one management tool.

If h**p feed is going to become a meaningful market, the work has to connect all the way from seed to field to feed.

Check out the amazing work happening at State University’s John C Pair Horticulture Center in Haysville, KS. The team is absolutely crushing it in this season’s h**p grain and fiber variety trials!

Led by Dr. Griffin, the Pair Center has grown industrial h**p and participated in multi-state variety trials since 2019 when research licenses first became available. 🗒️ They are committed to testing, recording and analyzing data — making it available and valuable to farmers in the Midwest.

H**p grain and fiber genetics that perform well across all regions of the country are key to scaling this crop. 🌱 We appreciate the Kansas Extension network that is committed to it.

Blue ribbon h**p! 🎡

A first in modern history, farmer John entered his Kansas-grown h**p in the North-Central Kansas Free Fair and he won! 🎢

Was there any h**p competition? No, but that’s beside the point! John’s h**p has the chance to compete at the Kansas State Farm and we’re so proud of his pioneering efforts.💡His field of New West Genetics looks absolutely amazing and he’s headed to harvest in the next few weeks.
