During a recent Evaluator Training session, Jessica had the opportunity to demonstrate driving with the J-Series Joystick!

The J-Series Joystick is a dual-axis input device that allows drivers to control acceleration, braking, and steering through a single input device. In this demonstration, the joystick is configured so that pulling it back applies the brakes, pushing it forward accelerates the vehicle, and moving it left or right controls steering. This joystick is also equipped with a pin orthotic as Jessica found that to be the most comfortable for her to use.

AEVIT Joysticks are spring-loaded for a return-to-center, allowing the joystick to return to its centered position when released.

Here is an example of an in-progress J-Series installation from GoldenBoy Mobility in California.

The J-Series Joystick will allow the driver to operate the steering and acceleration/braking from one input device. The AEVIT 2.0 GenX Display will be the hub for the secondary function activation.

A little behind-the-scenes look at what our team is working on.

This custom installation will allow the driver to operate the vehicle using a joystick—a highly specialized project that requires a level of knowledge and experience found at only a handful of mobility companies across the country.

It’s a pretty cool example of the expertise behind our team at GoldenBoy Mobility and the kind of custom work we’re capable of taking on.

We’ll share more as this one comes together!

This podcast episode was a great listen! Chad Strowmatt is a CDRS that works with EMC equipment. At 17:19, the segment about different types of equipment, he explains the AEVIT 2.0 steering and AEVIT 2.0 gas/brake with some examples.

Did you know EMC also offers custom fittings?

Back in 2024, we had the pleasure of working alongside an evaluator and their client to develop solutions for a unique fitting. This Silverado is driven from the passenger side using a J-Series and VIC, EMC’s previous voice activation system. To accommodate the client’s needs, EMC custom fabricated a mounting bracket, seatbelt cover, joystick orthotic, and wireless Magnabox.

So, how does a custom fitting come together?

Identify the limitations that cannot be addressed through a standard installation, and provide this information to EMC. The vehicle and installation challenges will be reviewed by our engineering and technical teams, who will then begin designing and prototyping potential solutions.

Once an appointment is scheduled, the client and CDRS will travel to EMC’s facility for the fitting. Our technicians and the CDRS will work together to test, adjust, and refine the custom solutions, modifying the equipment as needed throughout the process.

The result is a tailored installation designed around the client’s specific ergonomic needs.
