A shifting foundation can quickly ruin an otherwise solid backyard shed, leaving you with sticking doors and cracked framing.

Our latest blog explains why helical piers are replacing concrete footings as the smartest foundation choice for sheds and outdoor structures.

• They install in just a few hours using compact equipment that keeps your lawn and landscaping intact.
• They eliminate concrete curing delays so you can begin assembling your shed immediately.
• They anchor deep below the frost line to prevent seasonal soil movement, frost heave, and sagging.

Good foundation work starts long before the project is complete. It comes down to the right materials, the right equipment, proper installation, and knowing how to adapt when real-world conditions don’t match what looked simple on paper.

That’s the kind of work happening every day at FnD Piers, whether we’re installing, testing, solving problems in the field, or helping move a project forward.

There’s a lot more that goes into a foundation system than what you see once the job is finished. From the equipment and installation process to the steel itself, every detail matters when the goal is creating a dependable foundation solution built for the conditions in the field.

At FnD Piers, we focus on doing the work right, understanding what the project actually requires, and using systems designed to perform when it matters.

There’s a lot more happening on a foundation project than what you see from the finished product.

Behind the scenes are the equipment, steel, testing, planning, installation methods, and field experience that help determine how the job gets done. We’re constantly working to improve the process, understand the system, and provide foundation solutions that can handle the demands placed on them.

Strong structures start with strong foundations, and strong foundations start with doing the little things correctly.

Every project brings different conditions, challenges, equipment, and decisions. That’s why experience, quality materials, proper installation, and attention to detail matter. This is what foundation work looks like when the focus is on creating a solution designed to perform.

What happens below the surface matters just as much as what gets built above it.

From the materials and equipment we use to the way each project is approached in the field, every part of the process plays a role in building a dependable foundation. Whether we’re installing, testing, explaining, or simply showing the work being done, the goal stays the same: build it right from the ground down.

Choosing the wrong foundation type for your building project can lead to costly structural settlement down the road.

Our latest blog breaks down the pros, cons, and best applications for every major residential and commercial foundation type.

• Slab-on-grade foundations are cost-effective but remain highly vulnerable to soil expansion and freezing.
• Pier and beam setups offer great crawlspace access but require ongoing moisture and pest control.
• Helical piers provide superior deep support for unstable soils, poor drainage, and heavy load demands.

Diameter isn’t everything.

Put two 2⅞-inch helical piers next to each other and they might look comparable. Put them under serious torque and the differences start showing.

The thinner-wall pier began twisting before ultimately breaking at 8,500 ft-lb.

Same diameter. Different construction. Different performance.

When you’re choosing a pier, look beyond the size on the spec sheet. What’s actually built into that diameter matters.

It broke at 8,500 ft-lb. But that’s not the most important part.

Before this thin-wall 2⅞-inch pier actually failed, it started twisting.

That deformation matters. A pier doesn’t have to completely break for its performance under load to raise concerns. How the steel behaves as torque increases can tell you just as much as the final failure point.

Don’t just look at when it breaks. Look at what happens before it gets there.

Meet the 4½-inch. 💪

Built for projects that demand serious capacity, this FnD helical pier pushed our testing equipment all the way to its 19,000 ft-lb torque limit.

The equipment maxed out. The pier didn’t.

When the loads get bigger, you need a foundation system built to match.
