To Our Dear Customers-
With deep sadness, we announce the passing of our dad, grandpa, and founder, Jerry Reidy. Jerry was born in Chicago on April 5th, 1936, to Florence and Daniel Reidy and was one of six siblings. Jerry grew up in Downers Grove and joined the Army after graduating high school. After returning home from service, he met his wife, Sonja, while working on the Burlington Railroad. Jerry left the railroad and began working for a local metal refinishing company in Chicago- where he learned the art of metal refinishing.
In 1979, Jerry decided to branch out on his own, and started reidy metal services in Chicago, Illinois. In the early 1980s, Jerry saw that Denver was starting to boom and moved the family from the Chicago suburbs to continue to grow his new business, and the rest was history. Jerry’s tenacity, generosity, pride, ethics, and cutting dry wit helped continue to grow the business to what it is today, and we are so honored and proud to carry on his legacy.
In 2008, Jerry was diagnosed with a blood cancer (MDS) and joined a clinical trial at MD Anderson in Houston. While his original prognosis was very grim, Jerry would not let cancer win. Jerry beat cancer and was in remission by late 2009. Jerry’s success in the clinical trial allowed the treatment to be brought to market and help other cancer patients. Jerry was the longest living survivor of the clinical trial when he passed away at 89.
Jerry played senior softball with Scrap Iron for over twenty years. He was an avid oil painter. He loved Coke-A-Cola, always had a pocket full of sweets, and never turned down dessert.
Jerry leaves behind a large group of people who loved and adored him. His four children-Kristi, Kelly (Jerry), Kevin (Peggy), and John (Becca). His seven grandchildren- Brianna, Kate, Brad (Sara), Aidan, Henry, Maeve, and Gavin; and his one great-grandson, Rowan. Jerry has two sisters (Joan and Sheila) and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is reunited with his wife, Sonja, son-in-law, Don, and his three brothers.
In lieu of flowers- please consider donating to MD Anderson in Jerry’s name.
