Solar System "Detach" - 8 Hours of Labor in the Hot Texas Sun

Not sure if this qualifies as a "Strava" activity, but it sure whooped my a**. Yesterday, I completed a one man 19 panel solar detach (Client has a new roof going up).

I spent 8 hours in the sun (mostly on a roof) and professionally removed and relocated just under a ton (2,000 lbs) of solar equipment from a steep a** roof.

The panels alone weigh about 60lbs each and that doesn't include the rails, hardware, and all the tools attached to my tool belt. It's like doing an overhead, iso-lateral kettlebell lift with a 20lb plate-vest while going down a 14' ladder and tacking on a 30 meter walk (per rep) from the back to the front of the client's house.

I'm usually the guy in the office behind a computer or at client's homes conducting consultations, but I love getting out into the field to remind myself what my extraordinary technicians go through on a DAILY basis.

We sincerely have some of the very best solar technicians in the state of Texas. They never cease to amaze me how hard they work everyday, while still maintaining a positive attitude in some of the harshest and sometimes scary work conditions.

What a great text to receive from a valued client first thing in the morning.

My client is currently staying with family out of state and while she is out of town, her daughter is staying at her residence in Austin. My client's daughter just opened up this month's electric bill which came to a whopping $2.23.

***For all those people who are still skeptical about solar, please keep in mind that a solar solution is only as good as the people who design, engineer, and install them.

The first commercial solar panel was invented in 1881, roughly ten years before the first TV. Solar is a 140+ year old technology that is only new to those who aren't familiar with it "yet".

We installed this "Dynamic" solar system on a client's custom-built wooden pergola.

We used "Q-Cell" solar panels and a "Delta" inverter with "Delta" portable back-up batteries.

This beautiful retirement community in San Marcos, Texas had solar installed throughout the subdivision.

It just goes to show that there is no age limit for solar.

On the island of Corpus Christi in Texas is where we were able to put together this combination, roof and solar installation.

Dynamic Solar Design was incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to work with long-time resident and former professional windsurfer, Roy Tansill.

Mr. Tansill met Stacy Desopo and Jesse Keenan at the Home and Garden Show in Corpus Christi back in 2021. This is where he shared his excitement for solar as well as his concerns related to his previously installed solar shingle system.

After only working for 18 months, Mr. Tansill's solar shingle system stopped working. This left his roof modified and him out of pocket nearly $30,000.

With the help of his sales people, Stacy and Jesse of Dynamic Solar, Roy was eventually compensated for both his inoperable solar system and his modified roof.

Where this experience may have turned some people off from an entire industry, Roy new the benefits of solar far outweighed the bad experience he had received from a single company.

Stacy and Jesse were able to use the money he was compensated with to install a new roof and a new solar system for Mr. Tansill.

To date, Roy frequently checks on both of his sales people to see how life is going. He's also sent Stacy and Jesse multiple referrals as testimony of his gratitude towards Dynamic Solar.

Roy, you are an extraordinary person and a huge part of what makes Corpus Christi so great. Thank you for your kindness and for being a historic part of the community in Corpus.

We're working on a solar detach and reset in Horseshoe Bay, Texas.

Client is having their roof replaced after it being damaged by a recent hail storm.

Even though there was a significant amount of hail damage to the roof, none of the client's solar panels were affected.

We're going to remove and then reinstall the solar panels so the client's home and can be re-roofed.

Best part, the client is only subject to paying their insurance deductible and the insurance company is picking up the tab for everything else (to include removing and reinstalling the solar panels).

Though we almost never see a client's insurance premium increase for adding solar, we almost always see insurance companies choosing to cover them in situations like this.
