**🏗️ Need More Space? Renovate, Expand, or Build New?**

Most clients we work with already know their facility needs more space or better functionality — but they’re unsure whether to renovate critical facilities, rebuild, or start fresh with an entirely new facility.

That’s the perfect moment to bring in your structural engineer — well before the schematic design phase even starts.

Here’s why early engagement delivers the biggest payoff:

✅ **Objective, data-driven guidance** — We evaluate the existing structure’s real condition, remaining service life, feasibility, and true lifecycle costs so you can compare all three options side-by-side.
✅ **Smarter decisions from day one** — You get clear budget ranges, schedule impacts, and long-term performance insights before committing to a direction.
✅ **Significant cost and time savings** — Avoid expensive redesigns, change orders, or mid-project surprises once the path is already chosen.
✅ **Optimized, durable solutions** — Whether it’s targeted repairs and upgrades, a smart expansion, or a new code-compliant facility, we help you select the approach that best fits your budget, timeline, and goals.

Bringing structural expertise into the conversation at this early feasibility stage consistently leads to better outcomes and fewer headaches down the road.

If your facility is feeling tight and you’re weighing your options, let’s talk now — before the schematic design begins. We’ll help you see the full picture and choose the smartest path forward with confidence.

Drop us a message or give us a call — we’re ready to help you decide.

Happy Failure Friday! Today's example serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of involving experienced, quality engineers from the very first step in the design process. As we can see from the image, the masonry facade is precariously teetering between the building and a free fall to the ground, presenting a significant structural and public safety risk to the residence and the surrounding area.

This unfortunate situation is a clear demonstration of the disastrous consequences that can occur when corners are cut and experienced professionals are not involved from the outset. It highlights the importance of recognizing and valuing the expertise that skilled engineers bring to the table in ensuring that structures are safe, sound, and secure.

So, let's take this opportunity to learn from this example and commit to always prioritizing quality, safety, and expertise in all our endeavors. Happy Failure Friday, and here's to learning by deconstructing the mistakes of others.

Doing some reconnaissance for an upcoming custom home by Studio RM. They did an awesome job with the site selection, and we've been blown away by the stunning views from the property.

As engineers, we're taking a close look at everything to ensure the house is safe, efficient, and reliable. We'll be checking out the building materials and structural design, and using all the latest tech tools to gather and analyze data in the next phase.

We're excited to be a part of this project and can't wait to see the finished product. We'll keep you posted on any new developments!

At Martin and Wallin, we take the success of our client's projects seriously. That's why we conducted pre-pour observations at 3am to ensure a seamless pouring process. Our team was onsite to observe and identify any potential issues before the concrete pour, guaranteeing that our client's project will go off without a hitch. We understand the importance of getting things right the first time, and we're committed to going above and beyond to make that happen.

The Importance of Adequate Structural Support
In this week's Failure Friday post, we would like to bring to light the importance of proper structural support and highlight some examples of structural failures that could have been prevented with better design.

At Martin and Wallin, we understand the significance of a well-designed structure in ensuring the safety and stability of a building. This is why we take every aspect of structural engineering seriously, especially the provision of adequate structural supports.

One of the most common structural failures is the collapse of walls and partitions due to improper anchorage. This occurs when walls are not properly attached to the building's structural elements, such as beams and columns, leading to a loss of stability and eventual collapse. This type of failure can result in significant damage to the building and pose a threat to the safety of its occupants.

Another example of a structural failure is the collapse of roofs due to inadequate structural support. This can occur when the roof structure is not properly connected to the walls or when the roof itself is not strong enough to resist its own weight and other loads such as snow or rainwater. This type of failure can cause significant damage to the building and its contents, as well as pose a threat to the safety of its occupants.

In conclusion, the provision of adequate structural supports is a critical aspect of building design and construction. Without proper structural supports, buildings can suffer from significant structural failures, such as instability or collapse, which can lead to damage, injury, or even loss of life. As a responsible and professional engineering firm, Martin and Wallin always prioritize the safety of building occupants and the integrity of building structures by incorporating sound engineering principles in our design and construction practices.

Let's strive to prevent structural failures by ensuring that all building structures have adequate structural supports and meet the required codes and standards.
