Yesterday, El Paso and Minnesota union leaders came together in New Mexico to advocate for our union brother’s release from ICE detention.

Eustaquio “Paco” Orozco Verdusco, a member of NewsGuild-CWA, was on his way to work on Jan. 9, 2026, when immigration officers began following him shortly after leaving his house in C**n Rapids, Minnesota. He was arrested and has spent the last several months detained at the Cibola County Detention Center in New Mexico.

On Monday, Paco’s bond was denied and he remains in ICE detention.

From north to south and coast to coast, our union movement will continue fighting for our members in ICE detention, and won’t stop ‘til ICE is out of our communities! ✊🏽

🤝 Look in on older adults, neighbors, and vulnerable family members on really hot days.
✊ If you’re heading into union negotiations, talk with your local union leadership and staff representatives about plans for bargaining Health, Safety and Environment language, including addressing heat.
🗳️ Check your voter registration status NOW to take action this November.

Extreme heat this summer can be dangerous and even deadly for folks who work outside or those who work indoors without adequate air conditioning.
