ON TOUR, OVER THE YEARS: The Lockhart Residence | 2018 AIA Austin Homes Tour

In 2018, the AIA Austin Homes Tour brought visitors to Lockhart—a home shaped by the belief that thoughtful design, sustainability and affordability can work together.

Standard materials are used in creative ways throughout, while screened outdoor spaces catch the prevailing breeze and extend daily life beyond the home’s walls. Smart-home features, native landscaping and careful energy decisions helped Lockhart earn a 5-Star Austin Energy Green Building rating.

Beautiful, efficient and deeply livable: the kind of architecture we’re always working toward.

ON TOUR, OVER THE YEARS: The Woodlawn Residence | 2017 AIA Austin Homes Tour

We’re counting down to this year’s AIA Austin Homes Tour by revisiting the Restructure Studio homes that have welcomed tour-goers through their doors.

First up: Woodlawn, featured on the 2017 Tour. Designed for a young family, this new home pairs familiar residential forms with a bright, modern approach to everyday living.

Nearly a decade later, we’re still grateful for the clients, collaborators and Austin architecture community who made this milestone possible.

Rutherford Place: Before + After, Part III

What was once a dilapidated detached garage is now a peaceful backyard studio—a quiet retreat tucked beneath the trees.

Preserving the building’s familiar gabled form, Restructure Studio gave it new life with a moody exterior, expansive windows and a warm, light-filled interior. The result feels both intimate and open: a serene place to work, create and recharge.

See the studio—and the complete Rutherford Place transformation—during the 2026 AIA Austin Homes Tour, October 24–25.

Rutherford Place: Before + After, Part II

A dramatic transformation at the heart of the home.

Restructure Studio reimagined the kitchen as a light-filled, highly functional gathering place, balancing modern sensibility with the character of the original residence.

From two separate thresholds to one gracious arrival.

By combining the former entrances to Units 1 and 2, Restructure Studio created a spacious, light-filled entry that gives the home room to breathe. The original arched door remains—a familiar detail reimagined within a welcoming new whole.

Experience the full transformation of Rutherford Place during the 2026 AIA Austin Homes Tour, October 24–25.

Next: the kitchen becomes the heart of the home.

Our very own Carina Coel redefines the term “Sustainable Architecture” to include not only designing thoughtful, environmentally responsible homes, but also building a profession in which women, creativity, leadership and family can thrive. We’re proud to see her vision recognized by the Austin Business Journal.

From restored architectural details to thoughtful new interventions, every decision at Rutherford Place was guided by a respect for the home’s past and a vision for how it could live beautifully today. Hear from the team about the ideas, craftsmanship and collaboration behind its next chapter.

Phase Two at Oak Haven: making room for a retreat.

The addition brings a new primary suite to the home, with a light-filled bedroom, spa-like bath, and a direct connection to the backyard and pool. A private escape that still feels right at home with what was already there.

Phase One at Oak Haven: rethinking the spaces that bring everyone together.

Warm wood, crisp white tile, and a more open connection to the living spaces gave this hardworking kitchen a fresh start—setting the stage for the addition still to come.
