Don’t Mind the Mess — Move‑In Week at 2atara Grand

Owners move in soon and final work continues — finish carpentry is installing beautiful custom millwork, trim, and built‑ins room by room. Don’t mind the mess… we’re in full finish‑mode (tools out, crews on site) as we complete punch‑list items, final inspections, and a few remaining trades.

The before photos included here already show the incredible water views — stay tuned for striking after shots once the final touches are complete. Big thanks to the clients for their flexibility and to our crew, trades, and design partners for keeping safety, cleanliness, and quality front and center during move‑in.

Two standout finishes were just installed at 2atara’s Grand residence on Bainbridge Island: textured lime‑wash interior walls and a pre-finished concrete rain-screen fireplace/chimney.

The lime‑wash delivers a warm, tactile surface with subtle color variation and reduced VOCs — a natural, lime‑based finish blended to give a mix of smooth and textured planes. The concrete chimney is composed of preformed Viroc panels installed as an open‑joint rainscreen: no additional surface finishing required, built‑in drainage behind the panels, and a modern, low‑maintenance aesthetic that also aids exterior thermal performance.

Marina Cabin is a lovingly reimagined 350 sq ft boathouse at Eagle Harbor Marina, transformed by 2atara from a long-vacant, deteriorating shell into a cozy waterfront retreat. The renovation preserves character—original mismatched floorboards, historic windows, and maritime context anchored by an adjacent seafood cannery—while introducing thoughtful modernizations: a loft reached by a ships ladder, cantilevered butcher-block bunk beds inspired by sailboat design, and a repaired deck with marine netting that celebrates the coastal setting. Reclaimed historic windows from a Seattle recycling center and unique light fixtures sourced at a local rotary auction add layered, site-specific charm.

Comfort and efficiency were upgraded with spray-foam insulation, a mini-split heat pump, and elevated ceilings that enhance the compact interior volume. Perched across from downtown Winslow and the ferry terminal, the cabin frames intimate marina views that belie its small footprint—an exercise in resourceful design that revives a treasured piece of waterfront heritage.

Exciting progress on “The Grand House” on Bainbridge Island! This week, the team has begun installing the sleek Corten steel siding on the garage, which will develop a rich, weathered patina over time—enhancing the modern, industrial aesthetic and requiring virtually no maintenance.

At the same time, work has started on the cedar wood ceiling, adding warm, natural texture to the interior and showcasing the craftsmanship that ties the design together.
