πŸŽ‰ We're thrilled to welcome Element 84 as a Supporter sponsor for FOSS4GNA!

Element 84 is a software engineering firm that builds web-based geospatial applications and data processing pipelines. Their work helps teams turn complex spatial data into tools people can actually use.

Sponsors like Element 84 make this community possible. They keep open source geospatial software moving forward and give practitioners the space to learn, share, and build together.

A big thank you to the Element 84 team for backing FOSS4GNA and the wider open source community.

πŸŽ‰ We're excited to share that Dewberry has joined the FOSS4G North American conference as a Supporter!

🌐 FOSS4G NA is one of the premier gatherings for the open-source community. It brings together professionals, data scientists, and developers who build the tools shaping how we work with spatial data.

Why it matters:
- Open-source geospatial tech drives real innovation across mapping, analytics, and visualization
- The conference connects the people advancing that work
- Supporting it means investing in the community that keeps geospatial open and accessible

πŸ“ This year's event heads to Sacramento in November, and there's still room for more organizations to get involved.

If your team works in GIS, geospatial analytics, or open-source development, sponsorship is a great way to reach a technically engaged audience and support the ecosystem you rely on.

Attending the this week? Your ArcGIS setup can do even more by including open solutions.

Open source tools, open data, and open formats work alongside β€”not against it. Together, they help you extend your maps, connect new data sources, and build workflows that fit your exact needs.

That's the heart of FOSS4GNA, North America's premier open source geospatial conference, November 2-4 to Sacramento, CA.

Here's what you can take back to your ArcGIS implementation:
πŸ› οΈ Open source tools that plug into your existing stack
🌍 Open data to enrich your analysis and fill gaps
πŸ“ Open formats (Cloud-Native Geo, H3 Indexes, and more) for faster results.

The best part? These approaches complement the work you're already doing, giving your team more flexibility without requiring a complete overhaul.

Add FOSS4GNA to your calendar. It's a practical next step for anyone who wants to get more from their GIS.

⏳ Two days left to shape the FOSS4G North America 2026 program.

Talk submissions close Wednesday, July 15, 2026. This is your last chance to get a talk on the schedule.

🎯 The program is already strong, but we want more submissions in four areas:

- Business of Open Source: funding, governance, sustainability, and contributor pathways
- Community of Practice: user groups, mentorship, education, and inclusion
- Water, Fire, and Resilience: floodplain mapping, wildfire risk, drought, and climate adaptation
- Core Tools and Infrastructure: GRASS, GeoServer, PostGIS, QGIS, GDAL, MapServer, PROJ, and GEOS

🌍 If you build, maintain, teach, or apply open tools, your work belongs here.

πŸ“£ The FOSS4G North America 2026 Call for Proposals extension is working β€” and it may close sooner than you think. Since extending the deadline, we've received a strong wave of new talk and lightning talk submissions.

Thank you to everyone who has stepped up to help strengthen the program. πŸ™Œ

Here's the catch: we're reviewing proposals as they arrive, and submissions could close before July 20 once the remaining program gaps are filled.

We're still especially looking for proposals in four areas:
- Business of Open Source
- Community of Practice
- Water, Fire, and Resilience
- Core Open Source Tools and Infrastructure
If your work touches any of these, now is the moment to act.

A few quick details:
πŸ“ Conference: November 2–4, 2026, in Sacramento, California
- Talk and lightning talk submissions are open β€” but may close early
- Workshop submissions are closed
- Poster submissions remain open through September 15, 2026

Don't wait for the deadline. Submit your talk or lightning talk proposal today.

🌎 "Business of open source" doesn't just mean selling software.
It refers to the practical structures that sustain open-source geospatial work, keeping it alive, funded, and useful over time.

The FOSS4G North America Program Committee is seeking additional talks for this track.

So what does this track actually cover?
- How organizations fund open source geospatial work
- Consulting, support, and hosting models that sustain projects
- How public agencies invest in open tools and infrastructure
- Governance models that keep projects healthy and accountable
- Real lessons from building, funding, and relying on these tools

Here's the part that matters most: your talk doesn't need to be a polished success story.
We want honest lessons. Unresolved challenges. Real-world experience. The messy details other practitioners can actually learn from. πŸ™Œ

If you've built, maintained, or depended on open source geospatial tools, your perspective belongs on this stage. 🎀
