If you don't already know. Biomedical Technicians in Maryland are getting older, myself as one of them know this for sure. We need more BioMed's in Maryland. Heck we need them all over the country. But I prefer they learn here and work here. Howard Community College has a Biomedical Engineering program, only 2 years. This is a great a place to learn about a career that needs more and more. What does a BioMed do your wondering. Easiest answer I can give you is, Ever Piece of Equipment a Patient comes in contact with or a Nurse or Doctor. A BioMed has touched at some point in time. I myself went from working on laboratory equipment with Abbott Laboratories to working on Patient monitors at University of Maryland then onto the Baltimore VA Medical center ending my career working on medical Networked computers. So there is room to grow. Many starting salaries can be as high as $40-60k and ending up over $100k. If you know of a young person or older who is unsure what they want to do in life. Who can work with their hands, turn a wrench or is computer savvy. Please share with them to opportunity that is in need of staffing at all of our local hospitals and private businesses. Look into the Howard County Community College and join a group of people dedicated to improving the health of our neighbors and communities. Become a Biomedical Technician and learn that here in Maryland, (staying here would be great also).
