We believe that Data speaks. For any object, animate or inanimate. It is the lens that one must take what does he/she want to know about an object? Once we put the sensors, appropriately, as an engineering solution, we acquire data and look at the discoverability for the data to equate the structural health. Then we investigate further into health condition with Advanced Analytics and Data Science. It is lot more than only physical inspection.

How do we understand that a structure or its part(s) has taken definitive turn towards the worse? To take preventive action which needs to be taken through deep expertise an engineer possesses. What is a 'point of inflexion' in the context of SHM? It is the point when there is a clear and distinct change i.e. in shape, inclination, permanency, progressively speedier (deflection or settlement) under the similar loads, load patterns, environmental conditions. But how does one do it with out the Data Science? Do only sensors and the data in time series suffice?

Nation Building means different things for different people. For us it is preservation and safety of structure delivered Digitally. How are we committed to building nations? We believe that data of today and Data of tomorrow both will be there and will travel through generations. Todays data will be the baseline for tomorrow. To compare and to validate. Structural signature through its vibration characteristics at the time of birth i.e. time of commissioning, it will be just like the finger print of a human being.

However, unlike human finger print, structural signature changes over time due to changes in materials characteristics due to usage, nature and calamities.

Pundits say the status of the structures are good, bad or ugly, through physical inspection or non-destructive testing. Of course, they are useful. However, take a bridge, can we say given its condition, at point in time t, what will be the effect of overloaded truck of 22 tons when it is plying at 75 km/h or 20 tonners are going at 85 km/h repeatedly? Who will create more bridge fatigue? If the bridge is in an upcoming industrial town what will be the impact of both when there are 100 trucks going at 45 degree summer temperature and 95% relative humidity, high salinity and alkalinity?

As a nation builder, apart from building large and important structures, how can one contribute to keep them safe? Often we hear an argument that a bridge is made for 100 years. True. In 100 years we get to see 3-4 generations passing by. Then shouldn't we be taking some responsibility for the future generations to drive over the bridge safely that we build today or reside in a building safely that we build today?
