It was on this date in 1937 at approximately 8:30 a.m. that gangster Al Brady and his accomplices were apprehended in Bangor.
Brady, Clarence Shaffer, and James Dalhover had visited Dakin's Sporting Goods on Central Street a few weeks before, catching the attention of store owner "Shep" Hurd. Looking to purchase guns, Hurd knew they would be back and alerted authorities.
When the Brady Gang returned on October 12, the FBI was waiting to take down "Public Enemy Number One".
Brady and Shaffer were shot and killed on Central Street. Dalhover was injured and returned to Indiana to face trial for murders there. He was sent to the electric chair in 1938.
