Another successful Georgia trip in the books. Some thoughts on the trip:
1. People are nice when you interact with them face to face.
1A. Pulled into the hotel in Canton Ga and a guy was near his 1999 Buick LeSabre. I stopped to ask him about the car, his gramps gave it to him, and he told me he was having mechanical problems. He opened the hood and we came up with a solution. Part of that solution was reaching out to my mechanic (Joe Caruso)back in Batavia at 8:30pm. He immediately responded to my text and helped with the solution. Thanks Joe, call me anytime you need rock advice. š
2. A quarry I have been dealing with for 15 years changed their policy on selling to the public. My contact person there arranged for my visit and subsequent purchase of 16,000 lbs of rock. Most will be shipped back to NY in crates (they have a shipping dept) and the rest came back with me in my trailer. Thank you Georgia Marble for your continued support of science education and dealing with the logistics of the transaction. Thanks to the crew who loaded the crates.
3. Support the mom and pop shops. During pre-trip inspection one morning I noticed one of the trailer tires was 5lbs low on air, tire had a nail. I called the closest 2 places, big chain tire marts and they were unwilling to squeeze me in that day. Found C&D Tire in Maryville Tn. Called and they said bring it down. Turns out, it was 4 nails and they had a new 14 ply trailer tire installed in 28 minutes! Hope they enjoyed their donuts this morning.
3. Rt 71 is 3 lanes of controlled chaos. Better pay attention or you end up being the next accident.
4. If you ever get down near Tate Georgia, the Tate Mansion is a must tour. Extra special at Christmas.
5. Buc-ees is the best rest stop on the planet. You must try the brisket sandwich!
