Studies from Purdue University in the 1990s and later analyses have documented losses of approximately 0.6% to 1% per moisture point lost during field drydown, with optimal harvest often around 25% moisture to minimize this invisible shrinkage. To prevent such losses, farmers can harvest at higher moisture levels (typically 24-28%) and artificially dry the grain, which rapidly reduces moisture and halts kernel respiration without consuming significant dry matter. A few days late, but our hearts are full
