Soteria is a launderable barrier that covers the hospital mattress. When a patient is discharged, the used barrier is removed and sent to a laundry process validated to remove more than 99.9999% of C. difficile spores and other tested organisms. A 2025 study by Lee et al. demonstrated that Staphylococcus capitis NRCS‑A has emerged as a global cause of late‑onset sepsis in NICUs and shows reduced susceptibility to key first‑line agents. Genomic work confirms that NRCS‑A bloodstream infections in neonates are clinically significant and linked to NICU‑associated strains, not background CoNS. If you wait to act until NRCS‑A is detected on equipment, the infant has already been exposed to a known reservoir.
