A 2025 study by Lee et al. demonstrated that Staphylococcus capitis NRCS‑A has emerged as a global cause of late‑onset sepsis in NICUs and shows reduced susceptibility to key first‑line agents. Genomic work confirms that NRCS‑A bloodstream infections in neonates are clinically significant and linked to NICU‑associated strains, not background CoNS.
