π§οΈ Weather Wednesday π§οΈ
We've been getting a lot of rain lately, and with more wet weather expected over the next several days, sump pumps across Mid-Michigan are working overtime.
If your sump pump is:
β οΈ Running constantly
β οΈ Making unusual noises
β οΈ Cycling on and off frequently
β οΈ Struggling to keep up with incoming water
It may be time to give it some attention before a small issue turns into a flooded basement.
Before calling a professional, here are a few things you can check:
β
Make sure the sump pump is plugged in and has power
β
Verify the float can move freely and isn't stuck against the side of the pit
β
Check that the discharge pipe outside isn't blocked by debris, mud, or landscaping
β
Pour a bucket of water into the pit to make sure the pump activates properly
β
Listen for unusual sounds like grinding, rattling, or excessive vibration
Most homeowners don't think much about their sump pump until water starts showing up where it shouldn't. By then, the damage is already done.
