This custom rig was a lot of fun to build. Anti-X action from Defiance, carbon fiber stick from Proof, custom-made titanium brake from Meraki, Mac stock, Vortex glass, with all the trimmings in 338RUM. This thing rocks! Light and surprisingly easy to handle.

I don't know why, but my son likes watching me drive fence posts and put up signs this time of year. Eventually he's going to be tall enough to do this work. I put these up because I know these 3 people personally and would like to see them elected. I've collaborated with Matt Oleson as a pastor and shepherd of a flock. I've interviewed Zach several times now (all of which you can listen to on IFC's various socials and podcast destinations for Warrior Wednesday) and gone to Belle Plaine for volleyball, etc. Ashley? We've worked together at the statehouse in Iowa before she took office as a US House Rep, and I have no doubt she'll honor her commitment to the 2A moving forward. When I shoot her a text, which isn't often, as I know she's busy, she replies and gives me direction and help.

The sign I don't have up is for Brenna Bird, our Attorney General. This is no BS... I've never worked with an elected official in all my years with legislation who kept their campaign promises across the board and never backed down a lick from a 2A fight or conversation. You can find her at the SHOT show, GOALS this year in DSM, and just about any shoot/fundraiser.

Get out and vote early and vote for the right people. Doesn't matter which persuasion you are; if any elected official doesn't support your Right to Keep and Bear Arms, what that stance says about them is mirrored in what they think about you. That's right... They don't trust you, so they want to keep you in check. And you're going to elevate a person like that to a position of power and encourage them to make policy for you?

You wouldn't think a $100 magazine would need help. But they often do. And frankly, when you put untold money into these custom rigs, the customer deserves every component to perform at peak levels.

Every magazine is tuned here. Spring tension, feed lip adjustment, and so on. Why? Because you dream for years about that hunt way out West in the mountains, and one little obscure widget shouldn't mess it up. I have horror stories about insignificant things that ruin the hunt of a lifetime, and we work against Murphy's Law 24/7 here...

You just saw "The Heart of the Beast" and now you're on a mission to buy, adopt, or rescue a high-performance German Shepherd or Belgian Malinois.

You should think twice...

With Brad Pitt and a magnificent German Shepherd capturing everyone's attention in The Heart of the Beast, I suspect we're about to see a surge of people wanting German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois.

A word of caution from someone who owns one and has owned high-performance dogs: Be careful what you wish for.

These are extraordinary animals. Intelligent, loyal, athletic, courageous, and capable of things that will absolutely astonish you. They can also turn your household upside down if you don't understand what you've brought home.

These aren't ordinary dogs. They're working animals with centuries of selective breeding behind their instincts. They don't simply WANT a job. Many of them NEED one. And if you don't provide it, they'll invent one. You might not appreciate their creativity.

Their intelligence can be a blessing or a curse. Their protective instincts require discernment. Their energy demands an outlet. Their loyalty is remarkable, but without proper socialization, boundaries, and consistent leadership, those same wonderful qualities can become serious liabilities.

I know. We work through some of those challenges ourselves.

The dog you admire on the movie screen is often the product of hundreds, if not thousands, of hours of training, discipline, and purposeful work. You're seeing the finished product, not the enormous investment that produced it.

I'm not discouraging anyone from owning one of these magnificent animals. I'm encouraging you to understand the responsibility before you commit.

A German Shepherd or Malinois in the right hands is something to behold. In the wrong hands, it can become a danger to itself, its family, and everyone around it.

Don't buy the dog because you fell in love with what it can do. Buy the dog only when you understand what YOU must do.

And remember, the dog doesn't get to choose its owner. You do.
