Meet Team Doug and Jewels

THE SECOND TIME AROUND IS OH-SO-SWEET FOR BREAST-CANCER SURVIVOR, MILITARY VET

If not for a freak tornado outbreak in Massachusetts in 2011, it’s fairly certain that Jewels Pelletier and Doug Fisher would have never been reunited after being best friends and high-school sweethearts some 30 years’ earlier. But never mess with – nor ever doubt – the magical powers of fate. Today, seven years later, the couple find themselves as newly minted franchise owners with Pillar To Post Home Inspectors, where for over a span of 25 years, more than three million families have counted on Pillar To Post to be their trusted advisor when buying or selling a home. The Bella Vista residents, both 55, launched operations on June 1st and Pillar To Post is serving homebuyers and sellers throughout northwest Arkansas and Southwest Missouri, including Benton, Washington, Madison, Carroll, Newton, Boone, Marion, Searcy, Baxter and Stone counties.

Much like a tornado, the journey that brought Doug & Jewels together featured a few twists and turns. Doug went into the service after high school, while Jewels moved to the East Coast after college. Decades passed until the fateful day of June 1, 2011, when seven tornadoes appeared in Massachusetts and southern Maine, killing three people and injuring at least 300. These tornados destroyed the neighborhood that Jewels lived in and with concerned family and friends worried about her, she joined Facebook for the first time to provide updates.

And you know what happened next. “I found Doug on Facebook after 30-plus years and we found out we were still best friends, when I was diagnosed with breast cancer the following year, Doug quit his job in Michigan and came to Massachusetts to help me through my treatments, we fell for each other again and as our relationship progressed so did our desire to be around each other more often and so we were researching different franchises and existing businesses”.

Moving to northwest Arkansas in 2014, Doug & Jewels finally decided it was time to pursue their dream of working from home and owning a business together. They both were well-suited for Pillar To Post. Jewels had previously owned a successful Decorating Den franchise and had spent years working with contractors and clients on home remodels, as well as restoring old homes on her own.

Doug had worked as a manager for an ACE hardware store for ten years and has five years of experience as a manager for a national merchandising company effecting new store set ups, store remodels and resets for many retail companies across the nation. “Doug has years of experience with systems associated with home structures, electrical and plumbing systems” Jewels said. Now, having spent five years trying to find a business to start together, the couple has seemingly found the perfect match – thanks to a tornado.
