A dangerous “shortcut” that can cost a life

Recently on a project, I came across something many people underestimate — what’s called a “bootleg ground.”

What is it?
In older wiring (often knob-and-tube or systems without a ground), someone connects the neutral wire to the ground terminal at the outlet. This is usually done to make a tester show “correct wiring.”

But in reality — it’s unsafe and misleading.

Why this is dangerous:

• The neutral is a current-carrying conductor
It is NOT a safe ground. It carries electricity during normal operation.

• If the neutral fails
The metal parts of appliances (fridge, washer, tools) can become energized with 120V.
Touch it — and you can get shocked.

• Breakers may not trip properly
There’s no true path for fault current → higher risk of overheating and fire.

• False sense of safety
A basic outlet tester may show “Correct,” while the system is actually unsafe.

Real-world cases:

There have been documented incidents where people were shocked due to this exact setup.
In one OSHA investigation, a person was fatally electrocuted while using a portable light — improper grounding was part of the cause.

What the electrical code says:

Neutral and ground can only be bonded at the main service panel.
They must never be connected together at outlets or along the circuit.

If there is no ground, the correct solutions are:

• Install GFCI protection
• Label outlets “No Equipment Ground”
• Or fully upgrade the wiring

Final thought:

This is not a “quick fix” — it’s a hidden hazard.
It can lead to serious injury or fire.

If you have an older home and are unsure about your electrical system — it’s worth checking and doing it the right way.

Epoxy flooring — the best upgrade for your garage.

Old concrete floors don’t just look bad — they crack, stain, collect dust, and wear out over time.

We turn that into a clean, durable, high-end surface that lasts.

What we did on this project:
• Full mechanical surface preparation (grinding)
• Crack repair and floor leveling
• Professional epoxy system with decorative flake finish
• Durable protective topcoat

Result:
✔ Seamless, modern finish
✔ Easy to clean and maintain
✔ Resistant to stains, moisture, and heavy use
✔ Long-lasting performance
✔ Adds real value to your home

Most garage floors fail because of poor preparation.
We do it the right way from the start.

This is not paint — this is a professional system built to last.

If your garage looks like the “before” — we can transform it.

People often say:
“The lighting in our office is fine. Why change it?”

But once modern LED lighting is installed, the difference becomes obvious immediately.

In this project we replaced the old lighting with modern LED panels to create a brighter, cleaner and more comfortable working environment.

For the operating room, we installed two specialized fixtures designed for spaces where lighting quality is critical.

Better lighting improves visibility, comfort, and productivity.

Small improvements can make a big difference for daily operations.

In this veterinary clinic, we relocated the pet washing station to a more practical area. Our team handled the plumbing relocation, drywall repairs, and installed protective plastic wall panels to help keep the space clean and durable.

Now the clinic staff has a more convenient and functional washing area for animals.

Work in progress on a remodeling project.

After completing the layout and markings yesterday, today we carefully cut the floor opening to access the plumbing lines below. All materials are removed and packed into bags to keep the job site clean and organized while work continues.

Step by step we move forward with the plumbing installation and the next stages of the remodel.

Commercial Electrical Installation for PetCare Clinic

Large commercial projects always start with proper planning and detailed electrical layouts. For this PetCare Clinic project, our team is installing and organizing the entire electrical system based on the building plans and equipment requirements.

The project includes electrical work for exam rooms, treatment areas, reception, laboratory spaces, server room, and other operational areas of the clinic. Each zone requires its own circuits, lighting setup, and power distribution to ensure the facility operates safely and efficiently.

At this stage we are preparing ceiling electrical infrastructure, routing wiring through the ceiling grid, and installing power connections for lighting systems and equipment. Once the electrical rough-in is completed, the ceiling panels and lighting fixtures will be fully installed.

Proper electrical work in commercial buildings is critical. Everything must follow the plan, meet safety standards, and support the daily operations of the business.

Projects like this require careful coordination between electrical systems, structural elements, and the overall design of the space. Our goal is always to make sure everything works safely, efficiently, and reliably for years to come.

Safety-First: Your Panel Always Warns You

A home in Bellevue built in the mid-1980s.
The kitchen lights flickered occasionally. The panel cover felt slightly warm. Breakers tripped every few days.

Nothing “critical.” Just age.

But the panel was rated for 100 amps.
Over the past 10 years, the home added a heat pump, a modern kitchen, and updated appliances. The electrical demand increased. The system did not.

We performed a load calculation per NEC Article 220.
The result: the existing service was operating at its limit.

As Mike Holt says:

“Most electrical problems are caused by poor workmanship and loose connections — not high voltage.”

That’s exactly what we found — overloaded branch circuit conductors and loose terminations creating localized overheating.

The Solution:

✔ New 200-amp service panel
✔ Full breaker replacement
✔ Whole-home surge protection (NEC 230.67 compliant)
✔ Two ground rods installed
✔ Proper water and gas bonding per NEC 250
✔ All terminations torqued to manufacturer specifications

After the upgrade: quiet operation, stable performance, and capacity for the next decade.

If your home shows 2–3 of these warning signs, are you sure your system isn’t already at its limit?

Another major milestone completed on site.

At this stage, we have finished the installation of rigid foam insulation across the slab area in accordance with the approved plans and energy-efficiency requirements. All penetrations and seams have been sealed, and the foundation is now properly prepared for the next phase.

Current completed work includes:
— Monolithic concrete strip footings per approved plans
— Underground utilities rough-in
— Installation of rigid foam insulation across the slab area
— Sealing of joints and penetrations

The project is moving forward on schedule, and we’re preparing for the next steps of slab preparation and concrete work.
