This Bellevue wall is starting to take shape.

A lot happens before you ever see the finished product. Excavation, elevations, drainage, base preparation, compaction and a whole lot of block all have to come together before this hillside starts looking like a buildable homesite.

Our crew has been making steady progress on this engineered retaining wall, and we’re getting close to seeing the full scale of it come together.

We’ll save the finished-wall pictures for when it’s actually finished. It’s going to be a good before-and-after.

Another productive day in Bothell on the I-405 to SR 522 interchange project.

Our crew wrapped up this phase of work for Holmberg on the Skanska site today. In a quick 6-hour day, we backfilled approximately 124’ of drain piping, imported and placed 15 tons of pea gravel, and compacted the remaining areas with sandy fill.

Once the underground work was covered, we cleaned up and graded the work area, cleaned the roadway, loaded out and mobilized off site.

Good planning, good production, and a clean site when we leave.

Retaining wall work is underway in Bellevue.

We made some solid progress this week on the engineered block wall for this custom home project.

With roughly 120 feet of retaining wall to build and sections approaching 20 feet in overall height, getting the first course right is everything. We’re excavating into a steep existing hillside, establishing the wall foundation, and setting the first blocks to the engineered layout and grade.

This section is being built on approximately a 10% grade, so every block has to be individually set, checked and adjusted as we work our way through the elevation changes shown in the wall profile.

There’s still a lot of wall ahead of us, but getting these first blocks in the ground is a major milestone. From here, this site is going to start changing quickly.

Excavation Laborer / Equipment Operator
$25–$35+ per hour DOE
Full-Time | Port Orchard, WA

TH Excavation is looking for another dependable person to join our growing excavation and civil construction crew.

Our primary need for the remainder of this busy season is a strong ground person willing to work, learn, and become a valuable part of the crew. This is NOT intended to be a permanent shovel-only position.

For the right person, there will be frequent opportunities for equipment seat time throughout the season, with the potential to transition into a more dedicated equipment operator role next busy season. Someone who demonstrates strong experience, leadership, and decision-making ability may also have the opportunity to grow into a crew leadership role.

Our work includes underground utilities, drainage, excavation, grading, land clearing, site development, retaining walls, trucking, and residential/commercial civil construction.

We are based in Port Orchard and work throughout the region. Several of our current larger projects are in King County, so applicants must be comfortable working where our active projects are located.

Experience is preferred, but we are willing to train the right person. Reliability, work ethic, mechanical aptitude, safety, and willingness to learn matter more than having the perfect résumé.

Our primary hiring range is $25–$35/hr DOE. We are open to other compensation ranges for candidates whose experience, operating ability, qualifications, or leadership capabilities justify it.

Making progress in Bellevue. 👊

The last of the trees are down and we’re starting to cut grade for the engineered retaining wall on this custom home site.

The first 3 loads of retaining wall block showed up this week — only 19 more loads to go. 😅 This wall will ultimately run roughly 120 feet long and reach about 20 feet tall, so there’s a lot of material and dirt work ahead of us.

With clearing wrapping up, the shape of the site is finally starting to come together. From here we’ll continue working through the wall excavation and grading as we prepare the property for the next phases of this build.

A lot goes into turning a heavily wooded, sloped lot into a buildable site.

WE’RE HIRING | TH EXCAVATION

TH Excavation is growing, and we’re looking to add a few solid people to our crew.

We perform a mix of commercial and residential excavation, with the majority of our work located throughout Kitsap County. We also currently have projects in Bellevue, Bothell, and Auburn, so applicants should be comfortable traveling throughout the Puget Sound region.

We’re primarily looking for ground guys who are ready to work, learn, and be part of a crew that takes pride in what we put in the ground. Construction/excavation experience is preferred, especially experience around underground utilities, site development, grading, and working alongside equipment.

There may also be opportunities for out-of-town work in Texas on a data center project for employees interested in traveling.

We’re looking for people who show up, work hard, communicate well, take safety seriously, and want to grow with us.

Quality starts below grade.

More progress in Bothell on the I-405 to SR 522 interchange project.

Our crew has been digging for Holmberg Mechanical on the Skanska site, working through the underground mechanical scope in a tight, active highway construction environment.

From layout and excavation to bedding and backfill, this is the kind of work where accuracy matters. Grades, locations, existing structures, other trades, and sequencing all have to come together before anything gets covered back up.

Proud of the work our guys are putting in and grateful for the opportunity to support Holmberg Mechanical on a project of this scale.

Back in the dirt in Bothell, trenching for Holmberg on a Skanska project.

There isn’t much room for error on a site like this. Between active construction, established grades, tight working areas, and major infrastructure happening just feet away, the excavation has to follow layout cleanly and accurately from the start.

Our crew is opening up the underground work and keeping things moving for the next phase. We appreciate Holmberg bringing TH Excavation in to be part of the project and the opportunity to work alongside another strong group of contractors.

Making Progress in Bellevue.

A few days into this custom home project and the site is already starting to open up.

Our crew has been working through the initial clearing, processing vegetation and timber, establishing access, and getting the property ready for the substantial earthwork still ahead.

This is only the beginning. This project will ultimately include approximately 220 yards of export, 900 yards of imported material, 410’ of silt fence and tree protection, a 120’ long engineered retaining wall reaching roughly 20’ tall, utility work, drainage, foundation and driveway preparation, frontage improvements, soil amendment and hydroseeding.

There’s a lot that has to happen between a wooded lot and a finished custom home — and this is where it starts.
