What to do when it’s smoky outside

Wildfires, smoke, and unhealthy air quality are the occasional reality in Central Oregon. It’s important to take precautions to stay healthy if you or your family members are being affected by smoke from current wildfires.

Smoke is unhealthy for everyone, but it’s especially dangerous for people with respiratory conditions. To keep an eye on the air quality in our area, go to https://www.airnow.gov/ and enter your zip code.

We also recommend taking the following precautions put forth by Kaiser Permanente: For more recommendations use the link provided
https://wa-health.kaiserpermanente.org/handling-wildfire-smoke

Precautions for everyone inside:
• Stay indoors and keep your doors and windows closed .
• Run an air conditioner if you have one, but keep the fresh air intake closed and the filter clean to prevent outdoor smoke from getting inside.
• If you have a forced air furnace, set the fan to run continuously instead of ‘auto’.
• Check your filter and change it if needed. Use a filter with the highest MERV value that works with your system.

National Dog Day!
Founded in 2004, National Dog Day celebrates all breeds, mixed and pure and serves to help galvanize the public to recognize the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year, either from public shelters, rescues and pure breed rescues.
As tribute to this day we are showcasing The Dogs of Deschutes Heating.
Please feel free to join us by adding a pic of your favorite pup.

"Many people wear an item of green clothing on St Patrick’s Day or risk getting pinched for not adorning green on this day! It’s thought that the pinching started in the early 1700s, about the time that awareness of St. Patrick’s as a holiday came about in Boston, of the Massachusetts colony. They thought if you wore green, it made you invisible to the Leprechauns, which was good because they would pinch anyone they could see. So the pinching is to warn and remind you about the Leprechauns. Pinching those not wearing green on St. Patrick’s Day is an American tradition, having really nothing to do with Ireland or St. Patrick." - excerpt taken from the Mountain Reporter article published March 16, 2019
