What’s the difference in free stroke and applied stroke?

This is a prime example of why when greasing a universal joint it is essential that you grease until grease purges out of ALL 4 bearing caps. This failure is most likely due to plugging in 2 of the cross shafts and grease only getting to 2 caps.
