Recently, Applied Inspection Systems hosted UT Shear Wave and Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) training and performance qualifications at our office, with Terracon conducting the performance qualifications for our technicians.

The hands on training provided our team with another opportunity to sharpen their skills, demonstrate proficiency, and continue expanding our advanced ultrasonic inspection capabilities.

We recently had the opportunity to participate in an HRST Road Show across Washington and Oregon, representing our NDT team and connecting with operations at five different plants along the way.
During the visits, we focused on key reliability and maintenance topics, including:

✅ Inspection surface preparation – setting the foundation for accurate, high-quality NDT results
✅ HP & HRH bypass valves – discussing critical inspection considerations and common findings
✅ Header end cap inspections – sharing best practices to identify early-stage damage and prevent costly failures

It was a great experience collaborating with plant teams, exchanging insights, and reinforcing the importance of proactive inspections in maintaining safe and efficient operations.
A big thank you to everyone who hosted us and engaged in meaningful discussions throughout the trip. Looking forward to continuing these conversations and supporting your reliability goals.

Last Friday, our team traded steel toes for golf shoes and spent the day on the course taking a well-earned break together.

It was a great opportunity to relax, catch up, reflect on a successful recent outage, and start planning for the next one. Time away from the job site helps strengthen the relationships that make us a better team when it’s time to get back to work.

A special congratulations goes to Todd Smith, our Advanced Technology Project Coordinator, who has been part of the AIS team for nearly 20 years. Todd made the day even more memorable by hitting a hole-in-one! ⛳🎉

Advancing Concrete Inspection Through Innovation

At Applied Inspection Systems, we're committed to pushing the boundaries of non-destructive testing (NDT) through continuous research, development, and validation of emerging technologies.

Recently, our team has been evaluating the Proceq Pundit PD8050, a state-of-the-art ultrasonic pulse echo system designed for advanced concrete assessment. Unlike traditional sounding methods or limited spot inspections, the PD8050 provides high-resolution imaging of internal concrete conditions, allowing inspectors to evaluate structures with greater confidence and precision.
Our current R&D efforts are focused on validating the system's capabilities for:

✔ Locating reinforcing steel, ducts, and embedded utilities
✔ Measuring concrete member thickness from a single accessible surface
✔ Detecting voids, delamination, honeycombing, and other internal discontinuities
✔ Assessing structural integrity without damaging the asset
✔ Improving inspection repeatability through digital data acquisition and imaging

Every new technology undergoes rigorous evaluation before we deploy it in the field. We believe advanced inspection equipment is only as valuable as the expertise behind its application, interpretation, and validation.

Last week, AIS had a great time attending the June HRSG Academy in Stevenson, Washington.

The week was filled with valuable discussions, technical presentations, and opportunities to connect with others in the HRSG and power generation industry. Events like this are a great reminder of how important it is to continue learning, sharing experiences, and building relationships with industry professionals from across the country.

We appreciate everyone who took the time to share their knowledge and insights throughout the week. AIS is proud to be part of an industry that is constantly working to improve reliability, safety, and performance.
