The term “amiant” was first used by Dioscorides of the first century A.D. J. Brill, Leide –1915).

to describe a stone found in Cyprus that resembles alum (salts of aluminum) that may be cleft. Amiant is from the greek word άμίαυτος or “undefilable”. E. The finest variety of asbestos is known as amianthus, and the most beautiful specimens of this come from Tarantaise in Savoy.
